Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles — Attraction in Staunton

This location gave me the best experience I’ve had with a state dmv.

The employees here are more than just workers who call up the next in line. While i was waiting my turn, i noticed that rather than just handing over a new temporary license to a young person and sending them on their way they actually celebrated some with the new driver, getting excited with them and hyping them up for completing such an important step in life. I’m sure that turned whats usually a very stressful visit for new/young drivers into an over-joyed experience.

My process was also very interactive, easy, and personal. I started with not having my birth certificate and wondering when I’d be able to schedule the time to come back just before they let me know they had a service of printing out birth certificates for those born in Virginia right there in house for far cheaper than i would think. A simple 1 page form later and i had everything i needed to finish what i came to get done.

Employees acted nice enough to your face, however the judgy looks shaking of heads & eyerolls could be done without..they rush people with appointments,I literally hadn't sat my butt n a seat let alone filled out the forms b4 being called up. I sat up my payment plan, showed my marriage certificate and explained I needed to update my name & renew my license. My credit card had an issue wouldn't allow payment to process I stepped outside to call my bank and got it cleared up .took maybe 3 minutes TOPS. went back in paid, was told incorrect info about payment plans, the amount I'd have to pay each month was stated as three times what I actually am required to pay , due date was supposed to be set for the 28th of each month and I found out the hard way it was somehow set for the 15th..and when I received my new license in the mail, my picture was updated but somehow it was only a replacement....I now have less than a week to renew my license& my name was...

They stop testing at 4:30 and won’t let you do it if your are just barley after that. Just doesn’t seem well thought out, if you won’t let people test after then then you shouldn’t be open past that time. Especially since I was only late because of a wreck.

After unfortunately failing the test to get my learns 3 times we were told by someone “how old are you 16 okay come back in 16 days” after waiting those days and more we returned only to be told I have to take a class that I heard is 8 hours long I am extremely annoyed seeing how this has been a huge waste of time and I could’ve already taken the class and therefore been able to take my test we were told someone must’ve not seen that it had been my 3rd time well that persons job is to make sure to tell us the right information and after that not happening we’ve now...
