I used to really enjoy this park. The size and location of the park is awesome and we are fortunate to have a dog park in Coppell.
Unfortunately...more and more people refuse to follow the clearly posted rules of this park which is making it unpleasant for some dog owners. The very first rule of the park is that children under the age of 10 years are NOT ALLOWED inside the off-leash area. Another rule is that children are NOT to run or chase dogs inside the park. Nearly every time I have visited this park over the past several months someone inevitably shows up with very young children who insist upon yelling and screaming and running around after dogs THEY DO NOT KNOW while the parents simply stand there and watch. Another of the rules of the park is that I am responsible for damage inflicted by my dog - so if one of these kids runs at my dog screaming and she gets nervous and knocks someone down, then I am responsible for the behavior of that child even though they are clearly breaking the park rules??? How is that fair? Other ignorant people have commented that if my dog is going to "hurt someone" then I shouldn't bring her to the park. That is clearly NOT the point. This is not a children's park. It is a DOG PARK. I have never seen a City employee at this park checking things out. I have no idea who monitors or enforces the rules...but why have them printed up and posted if we don't have to follow them? The City of Coppell has many very nice parks - large and small - that are for PEOPLE. Why does the DOG park have to be ruined by...
Read moreI like the park and so does my dog. The small dog park is too small for my preference. I am not sure why developers feel that the small dog park should be a fifth of the big dog park size; small dogs want to run in big open spaces too. I also decreased my rating by a star, because during COVID-19 the fountains do not work and there are no posted signs except on the website. That was disappointing. I feel they should have the fountains on and just post signs to be careful of common touch surfaces. Overall, it is a well kept up area and my small dog loves the big dog park. There is a cluster of trees for shade, seating, adequate dog bags, and fountains that can be used when there is not a pandemic; it's a great place to take the family since there are open fields nearby to play ball, walk, or have kids play on...
Read moreMaintenance does nothing about dangerous fire ant mounds and they just grow huge. The water fountain on the large dog side has very little water pressure. Stickers and fox tails are allowed to grow in summer which are not safe for dog's mouths and are painful to get out of fur and tails. There is no place to rinse dogs off when they go in the many mud puddles that grow after it rains as the little faucet shower head is facing in the wrong direction to rinse dog's undercarriage and feet. There is no lighting on the large dog side and no shade in the afternoon during the very hot summers. Shade trees need to be added, as does lighting. New water facilities need to be added and maintenance needs to do better. The only positive here is that there is...
