I flew out to San Diego to meet my husband in port. We wanted to stay at the Lodge, but they were full with people who were PCSing. The front desk is not close to the building they put you in. We had to walk up a dirt hill and down a road to get to our room. Upon arrival, everything looked fine. We dropped our stuff off and went out to explore. We came back at night and were about to crawl into bed when we pulled back the sheets and had long dark hairs and ants crawling all over the bed. We called the front desk and they told us to come back down to the front desk, so we hiked down the dirt hill in the dark to have them tell us they were going to move our room to the one next door and that in the morning they would move us to a completely different building. Sounded good to us, we moved next door where all of the ants resided in the bathroom. As long as they werenât in the bed, thatâs fine. Bed looked clean and we passed out. The next morning my husband went back down to the front desk to see where we would be moving to. While he was gone, housekeeping knocked on the door and I answered, telling her that we would be out soon because reception said they were moving us. She said they were liars and no one was coming in after us so we could stay. She also told me that if I wanted to complain about ants again, it was like that in all the rooms and not worth complaining about (which was rude). Then she told me a personal story about how she doesnât talk to her daughter anymore. The tub is discolored from what looks like mold being trapped under a rubber mat and then the mat being taken out. The AC doesnât work but they provided a fan. The fridge does not keep things cold. Overall, we agreed that we would pay more money to stay off base next time. Stay at your own risk. We definitely didnât get an updated room and I have ants crawling on me as...
Read moreWe really wanted to get a reservation at the Navy Lodge, but were told they were not accepting reservations until September. We stayed in building 572 room 305. It is a remodeled room. Here are the pros and cons:||Pros:||Less than a half mile to the beach, and across the street from the golf course.||Front desk just wants to make your stay comfortable- very helpful and nice.||The room itself has been updated||Everything is close by||The room itself, with all the doors and windows shut, is extremely quiet.||Deluxe queen room has everything you need- large bathroom, large fridge, stove, microwave.||||||Cons:||In our building, there is no elevator. Up and down three flights of stairs several times a day is taxing for two fifty plus year olds.||There is a compressor directly outside the room that never shuts off. It is very loud. If you close the windows, it is reduced to a low hum, but the best part of being near the ocean is sleeping with the winds open to enjoy thew beautiful breeze. This is not feasible, as the humming noise drowns out everything else in the room. ||Small details not working in the room (no telephone, screen falling out of window, and we were asked to keep the A/C off in the bedroom as the condensation was dripping to the room below us- that made it difficult since we had to keep the windows closed because of the loud compressor)||||I would stay there again, but would ask to be away from...
Read moreThe rooms have a kitchenette which is nice. Some rooms have A/C. They tell you this when this when you check in. However, they don't "know" if your room has A/C when you check-in. They just mention some are without. (I guess the A/C units jump from room to room magically.)
The service was sub par. The reservation was kind of rough. Conveying the spelling of email addresses had to be done multiple times and I'm pretty sure in the end it was still incorrect as I haven't gotten an email for the reservation. Check-in went smoothly (other than the A/C thing), but checking out is mandatory. The receptionist called me at noon to threaten me that a fee will be incurred in the future if I don't sign my receipt upon checking out. I didn't really care for her demeanor over the phone. Her tone was quite demeaning. I could've been wrong though. The typical hotels and Air Force lodging accommodations I visit allow the patron to just leave without having to sign a receipt.
I would encourage you to book elsewhere. This would be my recommendation: Navy Lodge North Island Bldg 1401-A Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, CA 92135 Here are some of the room rates. $110 - Std Room $140 - Guaranteed Ocean View (Current as of 11 JUN 2024.) Navy Lodge is right on the beach and it has better amenities (pool, breakfast, etc.). Hopefully, this alleviates the burden of Navy Gateway Inns & Suites from treating people...
