The spring was on Mr Spangler's land. He used it, others used it. They call it... Spangler's Spring! This is a wonderfully monument-rich area of the battlefield at Gettysburg. Many miss this part of the battlefield, as there are only two ways in and they are not obvious. Many park roads are one way now due to volume, but they take you along the tour route which ends up covering all three days, and their events, in sequence.

Spangler’s Spring is an area that was occupied by both the Union and Confederate Armies during the Battle of Gettysburg. There are many stories of soldiers from both armies using the springs for water during the battle. Most of the action around the Spring took place on the evening of July 2nd and morning of July 3rd 1863.

This etching is from A.L.Coble of the 1st North Carolina Regiment, Company E. Full name Augustus Lucian Coble. He was from Alamance County, NC. This is about 300 feet from Spangler Spring along the old stone fence. Go left until you see the split rock. Etching is on the slanted,/rear section facing Union position.

Pretty cool spot, both the North and South soldiers used this spring for water during the war. Kinda like the Water Holes of the Serengeti. Both predators and prey gather in peace. Wish it was still running with water now but looks like it was blocked off. But there is still a ditch where it looks like the spring water still flows through. Also the wild flowers around here...
