BRENDA JILL GARCIA MEMORIAL PARK — Attraction in Cypress

I usually don’t leave reviews, but what happened at this park needs to be shared. My children—Black kids just trying to enjoy their day—were treated unfairly and singled out for absolutely no reason other than the color of their skin. They weren’t causing trouble, weren’t breaking rules, just simply being kids. Yet somehow, they were the only ones picked out of a crowd and told to stop doing things other children were freely allowed to do.

What made the situation even worse was when we tried to speak up and explain, to an officer that work at park, Instead of trying to understand or observe what was actually going on, the officer immediately started siding with the park staff—based on words alone, not facts. He didn’t witness anything himself, didn’t ask thoughtful questions, and made it clear whose side he was on without giving our kids a fair chance to be heard.

This was not about enforcing rules—it was about bias. About singling out and demeaning kids who deserved to feel safe and welcome. It’s heartbreaking and exhausting having to constantly defend our children’s right to exist and enjoy public spaces like everyone else.

No child should be made to feel like a threat or a problem because of their skin color. And no officer should stand by and uphold that kind of treatment without even trying to get the truth.

Until this park addresses how it treats Black families and trains both staff and security to act with fairness, awareness, and decency, I cannot recommend it to anyone. Especially not to families who want their kids to be treated with the same respect and care as everyone else’s.

So sad to see this park going down the drain due to the crunchy man who is now over this park. Not only changing the time of close from dusk to 5:30 but is wanting to shut the park down during the week to "prevent swarms of children" playing at the park during the week. Sir if you dislike children so much just take out the kids park stuff and make it an adult center. This man will rant to you about how there's swarms if kids at the park and the best time to come is 7am when no ones here and how's he's making all these changes. Not to mention other times he has stopped and spoken, only to give the impression he dislikes children.

1.we don't sympathize with you sir. We enjoy that this park has so many children for our kids to also play with. 2.You're just another crunchy old man ruining something nice for everyone. Stop talking to people. We dont enjoy the convos and it's quite frankly weird. So if you enjoy this park...enjoy it while it's still open to the public. Very unsettling group of folks to be running a children's park. Found a nice new place that we will be going and already know a different splash pad. Do better. Be nicer. And yes...loads of kids at the park is a GOOD...

We just moved to the area and found this park on google search. The first thing we noticed that it was very nice and gated so we are so excited for our little one and we noticed cars pulling out as we are pulling in and right on the gate we noticed a sign that said it was closing so we had to continue to pull on in for us to turn around.This lady comes running with the most devastated look on her face yelling at us like we just ran over her dog “THE PARK IS CLOSED!!! THE PARK IS CLOSED!! TURN AROUND NOW!! NO!! TURN AROUND NOW!!” We just had to laugh because her reaction was so unnecessary and ridiculous. I hope I don’t cross paths...
