I really love Richland College and I believe that they have the best professors available over there. But I am giving this school one star mainly because of the learning center. I was taking a math class in Maymester and it was really tough. My professor suggested me to go to the learning center for math tutoring. I went there at 12:00 PM as their timings for learning center in Maymester are from 12:00 PM-4:00 PM. The lady on the reception told me that the tutors don't come until one. I decided to wait there. After half an hour another girl came who was also a student. And after 5 minutes the tutor came and went straight towards the other girl, ignoring me completely even though I came first and was sitting at the front while the other girl was at the far back corner. I thought that they might be friends who are waiting for tutor. I went to the front desk to ask when will the tutor come because I was waiting since an hour. The lady told me that the tutor is here and she pointed towards the same girl who ignored me. She didn't even ask me once if I needed help or not? The other tutor came and she said what do you need help with ? I said Calculus and the lady at the front desk couldn't understand me and rolled her eyes and showed me a very careless and unprofessional attitude. When I complained to the other tutor she said you should have sat at the back and waited for the help (which I think is the most stupid excuse). Firstly, I came first and the tutor should have asked me who came first but instead she ignored me. She even passed by me 3-4 times. Secondly, the attitude of staff was very unprofessional and rude. They have always been like this. I am very...
Read moreMy son, a senior at UT Dallas in the Game Design program was not getting the courses he wanted. It is very heavy in the animation, rigging etc and the availability is limited due to so many students). He was also more interested in the Programming side of it. So we transferred him into Dallas College Richland which has a program he is very excited about. The courses he'll be taking are exactly what he wants and it appears that Dallas College helps with creating a portfolio and there is even the possibility of working with major Gaming companies as part of the program (at least that's the way I understand it). We don't know the quality of the program yet of course. However I was very impressed with how the staff with whom we engaged really seemed to care for my son in their attempt to get him squared away. The staff in admissions, the testing center and especially the success coach that helped him during his appointment, Erica Cumby, were just amazing. My son and I were going back and forth for 2.5 hours trying to get him registered (between transcripts not in the system yet and not being able to retrieve TSI scores and courses he may or many not need to take, etc). Ms Cumby was just so helpful, even walking with us back to admissions, so we didn't have to wait in line again and again. By the end of it all, she not only got him registered, she had enrolled him in all the courses. He was ready to go by the time we left. Above and beyond. The bar has been set pretty high, so I hope the professors and their courses are up to the same level....
Read moreHorrible, terrible Financial Aid department/staff. Everytime I go there, the person(s) I speak to are always in a cranky, I-hate-working-here kind of attitude. And just to make my experience worse, I wrote a detailed email one night when I got home from my 6pm class to send to Ms. Patricia Johnson (whom I finally got a response from AFTER resending my email a 2nd time), only to be told that SHE "didn't understand my question but perhaps the continuing education ladies could help me". Seriously? I gave a whole explanation of my issue, even added my question at the BOTTOM of my email and still, she didn't seem to understand English. My issue wasn't even that difficult. My situation had to do with whether a class, which, stated on my reg summary (from awhile back) that it had began on 4/17, HOWEVER, the deal was that my professor of that class said that it actually starts on 4/26 due to Spring Break SO I simply wanted to know whether I could somehow get registered into the correct date using TPEG given to me to pay for the other class date and/or whether I should leave everything as is because honestly, I didn't want to have to go re-register and pay out of pocket for this class which, was actually free for me, thanks to TPEG-- something that Ms. Johnson is in charge of because she deals with TPEG registration, amounts, etc. Anyway, everything got situated, thank goodness, so shout out and a big thanks to Ms. Johnson, you were SO polite and quick to help...
