My father lost his mother to cancer when he was 11 years old. She donated her body to science and it took me 20 years to find out she was put at the memorial gardens. For the first time in 50 years my dad got to be close to his mother and also his grandmother. The birds and the setting helped him feel at peace. The pathways were great and allowed us to see different areas and A LOT of birds. We had a great trip and will be back again.

A fantastic place for bird observation and photography up close from the third level of the faculty parking garage. You’ll have it all to yourself. Nesting birds in some cases may be only 10 to 15 feet away. Yesterday when I was there on April 30, 2024 there were hundreds and hundreds of Great Egrets nesting, along with other birds enjoying the treetops. I’ll add some photos for your enjoyment.

The sounds of their talking and the sight of their congregation made it feel like being in the jungle or something far removed from city life. Great place to escape for some bird watching, a little picnic, etc.

This is a great rookery where you can see Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Cattle Egrets, Little Blue Herons, Ibises, Little Blue Herons and more as they nest and care for their young offspring. If you enjoy wildlife photography there are great photo opportunities here. But its also a great place to just stroll through and enjoy observing the birds. There are parking garages directly across on both sides from where you can get nice...
