I am currently staying at the hospital right now. I have been here for 23 days. The nurses are wonderful very knowledgeable and a majority of them have a great personality. My favorite nurses are Britney, Rebecca,Michelle,Sarah, and marvelous. There are more but can't think of their names. And all the nurse techs are really helpful and nice. The doctors and pharmacist are very helpful and are also very knowledgeable.my only issues are that they order xrays or blood work and come to your room at 4am, when your trying to sleep.
The worst part of this hospital is there food. The food is so bland and has no flavor. The cooks do not taste the food before it goes out. They also miss items on your tray. Most of the times I barely got any condiments and sometimes they didn't give me silverware. They give you a printed menu of what you should have on your tray. But no one checks to see if the correct items are on the tray. I have spoken to the nurses who send messages to the kitchen manager.
And I spoke to Natalie the dietician who is really nice. But unfortunately her hands are tied.I finally spoke to the kitchen manager who said he will have a supervisor inspect my tray before it goes out. The first day they did it I was missing an item. Then the next day I was missing condiments and the food had absolutely no flavor and the rice was hard and Salisbury steak was tough. Then you tell them you don't like certain items and they still put them on your tray.
The turkey and cheese sandwiches have more flavor then there food. I wasn't the only patient to complain. The nurses say they hear all the time that the food is horrible and alot of patients complain about the food and lack there of items they are suppose to get. Basically the doctors and nurses get a 5 star and food gets a 0 star.
I've got quite a lot of experience with Parkland Hospital. I contracted flesh eating bacteria inexplicably the first week of January. I wound up being transferred to Parkland via ambulance from my local hospital just south of Fort Worth. When I arrived at Parkland, I was in critical condition and needed to have my right leg amputated. They sprang into action and saved my life.
I wound up spending nearly three months at Parkland. You will not find higher quality care anywhere in the entire DFW area.
Months after being discharged, I had an unrelated complication arise. I knew it would require surgical intervention. Technically, I could've gone just about anywhere for this treatment. However, I can't fathom ever having surgery, or any other procedure for that matter, anywhere but Parkland. In fact, I even delayed this operation by a few weeks to ensure that I could sort through some insurance issues and not have to go anywhere else.
Parkland is a gem of a health care facility that is hidden in plain sight. World class care is available at a county hospital. There aren't too many places in the country where folks are...

I was involved in a car accident so my process was pretty quick. I didn't arrive by ambulance but was still treated with the urgency you'd expect from a class 1 trauma center. The nurses were all super nice and extremely friendly. The check-in nurse laughed and joked with me (helped to settle my nerves) and the triage nurse was informative and calming. My doctor was very personable and relatable, even telling me about an accident almost identical to mine that he'd recently had!! Even the discharge nurse was helpful, sweet and accommodating. The entire afternoon team at Parkland ER deserves a huge round of applause. Oh I didn't even mention that the prescription pickup process could have been a nightmare with 30+ people in front of my number but there was an ange who walked me to the front window and told the tech that if just been discharged from the ER and my script was ready. I was out 2 minutes later!!!
PS: Ask me why it's not...
