A very large lake where many boating activities takes place, the lake is very stunning to look at during the day, but don't expect to jump in and take a dip.
Taken from the Lake's Wiki, "Construction on White Rock Lake began in 1910 in response to a water shortage in Dallas. After the lake was completed in 1911, residential construction around the lake increased, and in the early 1930s the Dallas Park Board, with the help of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), began developing the lakeshores into a municipal park."
"At the outbreak of WWII, the U.S. Army used the CCC camp as induction point for new recruits. In 1943 the government used the barracks at Winfrey Point to house 403 German prisoners-of-war who had served in Rommel's Afrika Corps."
"The growing population of Dallas and a drought increased the demand for water, and on September 1, 1952, the beaches of White Rock saw their last swimmers in order to maintain a sanitary water supply."
"By 1992 White Rock Lake Park was a center of recreational activity for central Dallas, providing picnic areas and bicycle and jogging paths."
"All that is left of the Daniel and Cox farms is the old "Daniel-Cox family cemetery." The Daniel family fell upon hard times and when the cemetery was renovated, the Cox family contributed funds to renovate the cemetery so the current sign reads...
Read moreCoolest place inside Dallas for a great scenic walk around the lake or a picnic. Or even a peaceful nighttime escape to look at the stars while you sit one of the many docks. There is a marina with sailboats and even a service for free rides on the lake during certain hours. You can watch rigattas certain times of the year. There is a dog park on the Northside off of Northwest Highway. Also of interest is the Bathhouse Cultural Center, an old turn of the century early 1900s 'bathhouse' where people would come to swim and hangout at the 'beach'. Now it hosts many art exhibits and mini concerts right next to the lake. There is a house in the East side that can be rented for parties and events up on a hill overlooking the lake. Walking trail goes around the whole lake...quite a long trail tho! On the south side is the Dallas Arboretum full of amazing flora/ plants in a beautifully manicured space bordering the lake -...

The last time I was here was back in the winter of 2019. There was a lot of construction going on for the trails and paths. It looks like the were adding a new access road around the gardens. In addition, the actual trail path was fixed in some areas and connected to the white rock creek trail that extends up into north Dallas.
It has never been difficult to find parking. In fact, this visit, I parked ah the Richardson bike mart, across the street, and cycled over to the lake. It is not difficult to get there.
The lake is a 9.8 mile loop that is relatively easy to hike or cycle. There are a lot of spots to take a break and catch your breath.
I have never noticed that the trails have been busy. There is plenty of room for a lot of people.
I have been here many many times, the lake has gotten better. The sights and houses along the lake are also...
