An amazing theatre that should be a historical landmark… would give if fifty stars if I could.
I’ve been a patron of the Pines since I was old enough to remember… almost 40 years… and the theatre is an absolute treasure of northern Michigan. It had been about ten years since I’d last been able to catch a show at the Pines, and I was thrilled to see how beautifully preserved it was. Literally nothing had changed, and it was clean and comfortable and affordable (you can’t say that about many theaters anymore). I got four bottles of water, two popcorns, and a pop for $16. Crazy value for money.
The decor is as unique and well maintained as it ever was. IYKYK. The seats are original but in excellent condition, with seats at the end double-sized for folks who like to cuddle or who are livin’ large. There’s a booth in the back for crying babies (or crying anyone, really). I was so thankful to be able to use it for my seven month old so that I could bring my four year old to see The Little Mermaid.
The screen and sound were perfection for the movie. No issues there at all.
I love the Pines. It makes me emotional that I first visited it as a four year old and was able to bring my four year old now to see a show there. I am thankful it’s unchanged and has survived very difficult times. This place has a piece of my heart. ❤️ I can’t wait to return and promise it won’t take ten years...
Read moreI've lived outside Detroit my entire life and Pines Theatre is hands-down my favorite place in Michigan! The building was designed by the same architect that did the Fox Theatre in Detroit and you can tell. The building has not been altered, other than upkeep, since it's original construction. It is beautifully decorated inside and out and is truly a sight that is worth the ticket prices (which are comparatively low), regardless of the movie that's playing. The theatre offers popcorn and candy options for snacks and drink choices at reasonable costs. It is important to note that only one movie plays at the theatre every few weeks and that there is only one showing per day, except on occasional weekends in which there are two. To me, this adds to the experience of the old-style theatre but could be a negative for others. I cannot recommend Pines Theatre enough, nor can my words describe the astonishing experience that is...
Read moreGreat theater, exceptional staff, pretty cheap snack options for a theater, beautiful place.
The only issue is that they only have one screen. And they only show one movie, once a day (7:00 pm), 6 days a week (Every day but Tuesday). And it's pretty much luck of the draw what movie they have, usually it's the most popular movie at the time. And they play that same movie for at least a week, sometimes up to 3 or 4 weeks, before they change to a new movie.
But if that's the movie you want to see, and/or you just wanted to get out and see whatever's playing, or your kids want to see that new movie they saw was playing on their way home from school, then this is one of the best theaters you will ever go to!
9/10, only imperfect because of lack of variety, which...
