If you blink twice, you might miss it, but it's a quaint little park, located in the middle of a neighborhood that has a low-key feel of the California Hills (open 24 hrs but outsiders may get a few sneers from locals, but don't let that deter you). Their main attraction is a gorgeous man-made geyser not to high, but it still represents well. You can walk or jog but some may need more distance and others may feel it's all too close for comfort. I am sure that it is a respite from all outside entities. Do yourself a favor and avoid all dissenting eyes. Google says it's a public park, but the difficulties in accessing the short road that lends itself to access be speaks of a community of residents who want the appearance of "free public access" without coming out of their pockets to make it "private."

They're doing a lot of updates and renovations but they're almost all done as far as I know but I always thought to place this pretty cool there's a playground up on the top of the hill there's a overlook to the city halfway up the hill I recommend this place for picnics bring the kids for the playground or big wide open spaces for the kids to run and play football or whatever but it's a lot of up and down Hills there's a tennis court there

Nice park for a photo op! I am from out of town and just wanted a place to spend a few hours on my bike and read. The hill up was a great work out after some laps around the whole park. The coasting down is fun. I really enjoyed the lookout and the restroom was well maintained.

The park is absolutely gorgeous, Im glad my tax dollars went to something intended to enrich the community BUT the gang tagged signs, obvious tweakers lurking everywhere, rampant drug trafficking and the gentleman who was staring at us from his vehicle for over 15 minutes then proceeding to exit his car and urinate in clear view was well unnerving. I wish Des Moines PD patrolled South Side better. I fear for my safety walking here alone even in the middle of the day. Everytime I've walked the trail something always happens to where I feel unsafe whether it's a homeless tweaker mumbling to themselves and acting aggressively or obvious drug deals happening it's just not safe to be alone here especially as a young female. Do...

MacRae Park has a lot of promise and is a historic park in the heart of Des Moines. There is a fabulous view of the city from the Southside from the walkout. The roads within the park can be difficult to navigate with any vehicle larger than a sedan, but that was done purposefully to reduce traffic speed. The shelter has had recent updates making it a fairly nice event venue. The trees are beautiful during the spring, summer, and fall. Be aware that this park attracts a lot of people who have bad intentions. Keep your car locked and travel in groups. Enjoy...
