I live in Iowa, USA, well in West Des Moines! And I have been here for over 30 years - an Indian with a lot of agricultural background. When I heard that The World Food Prize would make its home in Des Moines I was more than enthusiastic. And what about the headquarters in the ‘old’ Des Moines Public Library Main library would be the official home? I have visited the library in its old glory! I used to visit the library not to borrow or read old manuscripts or books but the architecture of this great structure! World Food Prize has not only improved the image of Des Moines and thus Iowa, the Old Des Moines Public Library to its old glory, we are at the heartland of Agriculture. What better way to return exhibit what we have, to the world – be a part of it. Thus it is my proud privilege to be tour guide in this prestigious building for the World Food Prize The Hall of Laureates is a place that I feel like I am entering a sacred place – a temple for the endurance and compassion of human beings to solve hunger. This is one of the places in the building that I like to take the...
Read moreVery cool space located in a former Rockefeller library. Honestly, when I booked the tour, I thought this place was dedicated to giving out some James Beard like food award but when I got there, I realize the food laureate prize is the equivalent of the Nobel prize for people who help with food access to the masses. That was very interesting to learn, as I did not know, that kind of award even existed, and it was very cool learning about the history of the award. Our tour guide was great even though we had quite the rambunctious tour group with us who wad not really focused on the building or the award itself. One of my favorite parts was going into the basement and seeing the WPA mural that wraps around the entire former reading room. It’s sad to see that they had a former interactive exhibit that they were no longer taken care of because of technological advancements or difficulties or something like that. It would be very cool to see more people be able to access this place as it’s a great location on beautiful grounds, and a beautiful building with a...
Read moreWonderful experience! Setting was much more intimate than expected. Quite lovely. The musicians were phenomenal & fun making the evening exceptionally enjoyable. Could not help but to move to the music! Outstanding choice & delivery of music for the Halloween season. I would recommend sitting in section A for the very best experience. If you want to take video or photos at the end when they allow it, you’ll want to be in the first two rows. We were in the third row, section A and it was difficult to obtain any video or photos without them being unobstructed. We are so happy that we have already purchased tickets for the Taylor Swift candlelight with our friends after last nights experience!! This type of event would be a wonderful gift for anyone I believe. So grateful we were able to be there for the first one in Des Moines! Thank you to the musicians, again they were...
