Iowa Events Center — Attraction in Des Moines

Probably one of if not the best event space in the state of Iowa. The Expo Center, or Iowa Events Center, has multiple floors for all kinds of events. They have smaller rooms for more close-knit gatherings, and a full on ballroom on the uppermost floor. There’s plenty of restrooms on each floor, places to sit down and rest, and outlets if you need to charge anything while you’re here. It looks like a small place on the outside, but once you’re inside there’s quite a lot of space in here.

I came here for the first time for a GalaxyCon convention and it was a really nice experience. I stayed here until pretty late and traffic in downtown around midnight is pretty lowkey, at least on the weekends. I never really felt unsafe either. Friendly staff and people everywhere if you ever need help with directions.

Only thing that is a bummer is there aren’t a wide variety of places to eat nearby. There was food offered inside the center but it was kind of bland. There’s maybe 2-3 restaurants within walking distance to the expo center that are actually worth it. It’d be nice if they built some more restaurants in the empty...

Attended a wrestling tournament at the Iowa Event Center- Hy-Vee Hall on Oct. 28th, 2018. I have to say I don't think this was a good place for this type of activity! The bleachers don't go up very high so it was hard to even see the wrestling unless you went along the side of the mat which they didn't want people doing but they did anyway! When at an all day event I think you should be somewhere that you can sit in a seat verses the bleachers and actually see the wrestling!! The cost was $20.00 a person which I thought was out of line considering we couldn't find a place to sit & watch our wrestlers! The garbage was constantly overflowing by us onto the floor! I was very disappointed! Unfortunately we are attending another wrestling event there soon and I wish I could be more excited about the facility! Wish it was going to be in the Well's Fargo Arena across the street where we have been in the past for tournaments!!!!! Much...

The event was awesome, saw PTX!! However, there were not enough entrances or exits. All 12,000 people using the same doors. No floor entrance/exit. All people sitting on the floor or in the lower portion had to use the same set of tall stairs as those sitting higher up, but pd a higher price to be on the floor. Canned drinks were not allowed on the floor but, drinks in glass cups were. Make that make sense?? Paid $10 more for a reserved parking spot, which was close to the venue, and was great, except still had to wait in the general parking line to get to the reserved section and when the event was over, there were no exits in that section and had to wait for general parking to leave before we could get out of the lot.
