I visited with my boyfriend and guests from Ohio last Saturday. It was a beautiful day to picnic along the river as a freighter passed magically close! Then we walked through the conservatory, gardens and fish museum. Everything was clean, staff was friendly and blooms abounded outside and in! The plant collections are very varied and well kept. There were a lot of people on the island, all enjoying it with us. I reminisced about ice skating on the inland ponds and canals, then speculated as to which of the still-closed larger buildings had been the dance pavilion in my grandparents day. All in all it was a day to remember! Thank you to the state park employees and volunteers who have brought the "belle" back to the "isle." Hopefully there will again be dancing one...
Read moreLoved it! It was very busy on Sunday afternoon, but well worth it. Parking was a bit difficult to manage, but parking behind the Conservancy was more available. It's free to enter the park and free to enter the conservancy, but they do accept donations at the entrance. It's wheelchair accessible (although some spots might be too narrow to navigate with a wheelchair.) There are no public restrooms available in the building, but it is sincerely beautiful!
