I want to thank two wonderful women - whose names I do not know - who helped me out yesterday and probably saved my life. If either you see this message please know how grateful I am. Feel free to contact me.
Belle Isle is one of my favorite places and I visit there often. I am originally from Tennessee but now live in Canton MI. Yesterday (9/16/25) my husband & I went to Belle Isle and took a picnic lunch I picked up at Kroger. Because I am a diabetic I took my insulin because I knew I'd be eating.
We got to Belle Isle and ate our lunch, but I must have taken too much insulin because I soon was on the verge of passing out from low blood sugar. We stopped at the pavilion near the Aquarium hoping to find a candy machine to raise my sugar level. There was a Coke machine but nothing else. My husband bought a Coke and asked some of the people who were there if they knew where he might buy some candy.
Fortunately, we met two wonderful people who came to my aid. One lady had some orange juice in a cooler in her car. She rinsed out a glass and poured me some OJ which helped raise my sugar level quickly. Another woman (who was a diabetic herself) came up to me and asked if I was OK. I explained what was happening and she stayed with me until she knew I was feeling better.
People like these two women make Detroit & Belle Isle an fantastic place to live and visit.

Read moreBelle isle is awesome, I go here all the time. There's a nice beach on the river, a beautiful fountain, great view of both the Windsor and Detroit skylines, sports fields, a small aquarium and conservatory, short hiking paths, food trucks, a recently paved walking/biking path, and very cool architecture from the 1800s. This park really has something for everybody.
If visiting Detroit I think this is a must see, even if just for a view of...
