Warning to all Canadians: Try at your own risk of disappointment
Saw these "Spicy Spears" in a grocery store in Edmonton, AB, when I was looking for in the cooler section for Claussen pickles (THE gold standard for dill pickles!). No Claussen but these were there so I figured, why not, these must be good if they're in the cooler. Boy was I mistaken!
Seeing the other reviews on here makes me wonder if these reviewers have EVER truly had good pickles? Maybe they should track down some Claussens but they'll likely never touch these again!
I was doubtful that these even contained dill, but surprisingly it was there in the ingredients--dead last. With how much was actually in the jar, I would guess dill is more valuable than gold.
Now for my review.
Flavour: Overwhelming taste of vinegar--and I mean it is the main taste. Spiciness was present but mild (due to sharp vinegar). Couldn't taste any dill. That about sums it up, not really even any salt or garlic taste (likely due to vinegar).
Crunchiness: Very mild, almost too soft.
The rest of my family were all disappointed but, unlike me, they can't bring themselves to toss out pickles... unlike me, the "pickle snob". Note though, I've never thrown out pickles unless they were "off" (improperly canned).
My suggestion? Save your money.
Update (After seeing McClure's response): I appreciate the offer to refund but no longer have the receipt as it was a purchase made while traveling in another province. I can, though, supply the batch code: IA05482023 (Best Before 17/Mar/2025) as requested.
I have updated the review from 1-star to 2-star based on the manufacturer's expressed interested in the batch code (which shows willingness to stand behind their products & ability to investigate if...
Read moreCanadian here, Trying to help economy in Detroit, I have spent some time in Ecorse and met a lot of fine people there. At home I better examined the label and see the pickles are made in India. Spend your your money elsewhere and read labels better than I did. My fault for not looking but I believe the label is intensionally deceptive. Shame on you, McClures! P.S, still a fan of Uncle Ray's!
Note this follow up, thanks for the quick reply, but I feel this is computer generated. I don't want another jar of pickles, My original point still stands.....Why do you stain your good name by labeling your dollar store pickles the same as domestic source (guessing a lot better). I see your satisfaction rating is 3.9. Is this worth it? I'll leave it at that. Despite ongoing trade tensions I believe we should strive to support the North...

When I got them home I was very disappointed to see that they were in fact made in India??
The labeling to me seems intentionally misleading, I never would have bought them if I knew they were made somewhere else, let alone a different continent. And looking at the reviews, I see many other Canadians have been misled as well.
Even the bargain brand Bick's pickles are made in the US.
If it even needs to be mentioned, the pickles themselves are terrible. Soft, and just...
