Excellent hike! We used our All Trails navigation just to be sure we were following the trail correctly. It took about an hour, averaging 2.7 mph. I'd say wear shoes for walking on rocks, since there are some embedded in the trail and it's easier on your feet. There is some incline, so if you're expecting "easy" the whole way, the incline could be a challenge for people who only are able to walk on flat surfaces. There were lots of swarming insects, and after getting a bit sweaty, they started to land on me, so I used insect repellant. There were lots of families and duos on the trail, but it wasn't crowded. Be prepared in the Grand Tetons, as you never know. There were so many spots near the lake with beautiful views! It was such a nice hike, I'd...
Read moreDO NOT FORGET YOUR BEAR SPRAY!!!! Great trail right near the Colter Bay campgrounds. Given that this trail is so close to the campgrounds and visitor center, we were not expecting any bear encounters and hence did not bother carrying a bear spray with us. Interestingly, we did run into a small bear ambling down the trail that people hike on. This encounter was less than 0.4mi from the visitor center. We did manage to back off and get on to the "pebble beach" right next to the trail without bothering the bear much. This was our first bear encounter in the backcountry and served as an excellent reminder that no matter how close to crowds you think you are, bears could be...

The lake was frozen and the beach area, usually rocky, was covered in a foot of snow. But the view was...
