A gem of a place. I've been to the Artpost on Iredell street in downtown Durham many times and found each visit enjoyable and productive. Durham's Art store is owned and operated by Holly B. Phelan Johnson. She is so very kind and generous. I've watched her display this generosity with customers, browsers and other arts n crafts people, many times.
Holly helps host Flart which is an arts n crafts market for local vendors and the vendor fee is the fairest I've encountered anywhere. My daughter, who has disabilities, took one of Holly's classes and immediately they became friends. Holly introduced my daughter to the Flart Market and encouraged her. Holly helped change her life as I have watched my shy unsure daughter find her voice and pursue her passion. My daughter has become more confident and she speaks better socially due to the many interactions she experiences at these markets. My daughter feels included and wanted outside our home in this big world and I can never repay Holly for that.
Flart's vendor fees are sometimes donated to nonprofits in the area or Holly and staff give someone a chance to have a paid live performance. Holly looks out for others and the Artpost is a gathering place because it's welcoming and inclusive.
If you are looking for Art supplies come to The Artpost. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about what products will work for your project. If you are looking for Art classes then come to the Artpost. Check out their website for information or just stop by. To shop locally means that you are supporting someone's family and their staff's families. You are helping one another and looking out for each other just like Ms. Holly does. I hope to see you there making a difference and enjoying their...
Read moreI came to the store just before Halloween to try to buy what I needed, to make a cape made up of music sheets, for my son who I wanted to dress as a music conductor for his music class. Although I realized when I entered the store that it was more a paint supply store than a craft supply store, the staff was more than welcoming, gave me just what I needed from their scrap exchange, which inspired me to spend hours creating my son's Halloween costume. If I got that inspired in just a few minutes, I can't imagine what it must be to attend one of their classes....

The owner gave me all the advice I was looking for and helped me find the perfect assortment of tools to start my creative journey. She has great prices, a large assortment, and a wealth of knowledge. Highly recommended for all of your art supply needs! I'm already looking forward to my next visit to...
