If you're anywhere near Lancaster County, do yourself a favor and carve out some time to visit the Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market. This well-sized Amish market is packed with both delicious food and unique goods. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by an abundance of enticing food options—everything from fresh smoothies and shakes to handmade candies, soft pretzels, and an impressive variety of baked goods. We're talking pies, breads, cookies, cakes—you name it. And what’s great is that many of these treats are offered by multiple vendors, so you can sample and compare.
Beyond the sweets, there are plenty of savory delights too. We found stalls with fresh fruits and vegetables, rich and creamy cheeses, and butchers offering everything from deli meats to fresh cuts and a huge selection of jerkies. One highlight was a store featuring an extensive variety of nut butters—perfect for sampling and discovering something new.
But it’s not just a food lover’s paradise. The market also features a wide range of non-food items including beautiful quilts, handmade clothing, hats, bags, wooden signs, toys, tools, and more. It truly feels like you can find a bit of everything here.
While we didn’t get to explore the downstairs Farmers Market Gift Shop on this trip, it appeared to have larger handcrafted furniture and rockers—likely made with the high level of craftsmanship the Amish are known for.
In short, Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market is a warm, welcoming place with something for everyone. I only wish we had more time to explore the whole market. We'll...
Read moreIf you love farmers market, they be sure to check this one out when you're in the area! They have all kinds of hand made items for sale as well as food to try!
There was one stand that was selling beef jerky. It was pricey ($8.50/quarter lb) but I really liked their hot and spicy jerky. Be warned it was really really spicy. Their original was too tough and salty for me. The teriyaki flavor was all gone so that seemed like a favorite.
Another stand had some handmade yarn hair dolls that can be personalized! That was super cute but too bad my daughter isn't a fan of dolls.
Other things we saw that were being sold: handrolled pretzels, fudge, homemade jams, pastries and baked goods, and smoothies!
Attached to the market building is also a souvenir shop, selling apparel and tons of other items. Definitely worth a check in. I bought a shirt shirt that says "Amish Country" for $35. Cannot wait to just be cozy in it!
If you're bringing a stroller, it's great that the area between stands is spacious enough for them.
If you're looking for bathrooms, they are actually not attached to the market itself. They are outside behind the...
Read moreOver all, was great! Stand holders were friendly and welcoming. Great pastries and fudge of the best peanut butter fudge I will go back just for that! But there was this one stand, that still hours after makes me when I envision it! I could smell sauerkraut and it smelled good lo and behold I got it from the wrong stand because when she hand me my hot dog with sauerkraut on it I don't know how she didn't see the disgust in the disappointment on my face because it didn't even look like sauerkraut it kind of look like pulled pork that's sat in a crock pot with the heat off for a day and then she has the nerve to say is that enough sauerkraut or I could heat some more up I didn't know what to do I just paid for it and walked away I thought how I'm hungry I want this now so when I went outside I rip that whole side of the bun off use the backside of it to wipe my hot dog off to get all of that rotten crowd off of my hot dog and I ate the hot dog without a bun I hate for that one thing to ruin my trip then I think about that yummy peanut butter fudge and I would definitely go back...
