This was a great place to get information and learn about the area. They recommended driving around and seeing the famous covered bridges in the area and gave us a map that was designed for routes to go to them. That was really fun. They had bus tours for that, but we had just missed the last one for the day. Next time we will plan on doing the tour. It's such a beautiful place and we have been there 4 times and look forward to going again. Just like in the old days, most everything is closed on Sundays and most everyone goes to church. It was soo nice to see so many buggies of Amish families on their way to church. Something that the rest of America could certainly use these days. Everyone we met at all the places we went were so very nice, respectful, caring and peaceful. It was like a whole nuther world, and such a nice one. One that the rest of the world could certainly learn alot from and benefit from. They live a very hard life and don't have TV, radio, video games, etc., and many still don't have electricity. Not having the influences of the outside world (most are negative and harmful anyway) has helped them to continue being the best they can be and it is indeed a different and great other world they live in. One that many Christians can really appreciate and long to have. I wouldn't want to be totally without electricity, but about the only thing really needed on TV is the weather channel. We would be a much better world with God back in our lives and a more simpler life. I think people would appreciate life much more than they do now and it wouldn't be such a violent, negative place. Do I...
Read moreI was so excited Discover Lancaster was doing an ice cream trail this summer and it sounded like a great experience, but I am very disappointed when it came time to claim the prizes. The trail was structured that you can reach different tiers based on the number of points you received (and you get points from visiting various creameries). Tier 1 was a foam cow, Tier 2 was a mason glass and Tier 3 was a foam cow, mason glass and cooler bag all together. Well I reached enough points for Tier 3 and when I went to claim my prize online it said Tier 1 and Tier 2 were out of stock but Tier 3 was not. I thought that meant they still had bundles left so I claimed my prize online and went to Discover Lancaster to pickup my prize. When I arrived the lady there asked to see my phone and she went in to mark it was picked up. She then gave me the cooler bag and two stickers. I asked about the cow and mason glass and she said they were out of stock of those. So not only did I get one of the three items in the Tier 3 prize, but because she marked it as being picked up, I can’t ever get enough points to claim that Tier prize again (if they do become back in stock) because you can only receive one. I’m really disappointed their website did not indicate the Tier 3 prize that was available would mean you’d only get the cooler. I am very disappointed I got only a third of my prize and drove an hour to pick it up. I would not recommend doing the trails because you’ll end up spending more of you own money just to not get a prize if they’re...
Read moreThe Visitors Center is informational, but they don't tell you everything you need to know about Lancaster. There are numerous puppy mills in the area. Please don't buy any puppies or dogs from the Amish or Mennonites, you may be getting a puppy mill pup. The Mothers of the puppies are kept in small boxed cages with no sunlight, no Vet care, no grooming, no toys, no loving. They're kept in these boxes just to have puppies, then when they can't produce anymore they're shot. They treat the dogs like machines. If you still aren't convinced and still want to buy a puppy from them, ask to see the Mother and Father, ask to see where they came from... if the farmer refuses...
