Game Hogs felt like stepping back in time to my childhood. Their selection of games is unrivaled by other local game shops. I found out about this place from another retro game shop that recommended them. I was getting my GameCube repaired and that shop had a limited number of games, they recommended Game Hogs. I heard their prices are a little high, but after considering that they're a brick and mortar store, and the high cost of rent in Los Angeles it makes sense. I personally prefer to find things in the wild, and use shopping online as a last resort. Not everyone likes it that way, but that is personally how I do it. Part of my retro collecting is restoring the collection I had as a kid, and trying games I never had the opportunity to play as a child. The top roll of games are games I played as a kid but either never owned, or were lost or stolen, The RE games on the bottom I never owned, and after watching dozens of hours of RE content on YouTube I decided to try the games out for myself. I made two trips to Game Hogs, the firs time I picked up RE2, RE3, a GameCube controller, memory card, and HDMI adapter, plus some other stuff. The second time I picked up RE 0, Tarzan untamed, Scooby Doo Night of a 100 Frights, and Twilight Princess. I am not going to lie, expect to spend a good chunk of change to relive your childhood. The first time I paid almost $800, not including the extra stuff I picked up, the second time was about $280, which was mostly Twilight Princess coming in over $100. My sister also picked up Animal Crossing on GameCube, she never had the chance to play it when we were kids, and it was great she gets to experience it now. The store looks small from the outside, but is a three room giant on the inside. It may look a little messy, but I think that adds a little to the charm. That is not to say the store is perfect, they could definitely use an interior remodel, and create more merch with their brand. A website wouldn't hurt either, they get around mostly through word of mouth. They are a great store, the staff is incredibly helpful, they will go out of their way for you, 10/10 for the staff, super helpful.
Overall Game Hogs is a definite place you wouldn't want to miss if you're retro game hunting in the Los Angeles area. I can't wait until my next visit, there is more I need to add to...
Read moreThey have a wonderful selection of vintage games on consoles I've rarely heard of, they have a little bit of everything but one big down side to Game Hogs is that they're ASTRONOMICALLY expensive! They're selling new PS4 units for $379, when in stores like gamestop they're $279 - $299. Their PS VITAS are going for $250 - $300 when on ebay they're like $125 - $175. Don't even get me started on their Saturn games. You'll be dropping at least $80+ for a Sega Saturn Game. I even saw one Saturn game cost (no joke) $1,500. Just sitting there in the glass case.
Also it's kind of a dingy place, the main game room looks good, but they have a second room which a bunch of tarps and leaky ceiling and it just doesn't look great.
I still like the place, I enjoy supporting small business and you bet...
Read moreI found them in offer up I asked if they still had a game I was looking for. As I got there they apparently sold it so I looked around for other options and I have to say apart from not been organized at all there extremely overpriced I asked the price for a game and the guy looked up a price on ebay in front of me and doubled the price. Funny part is they contacted me in offer up trying to buy one of the games I'm selling for half the price is worth and they sell same game for triple for what's it worth I rather sell the game to someone who will use it not someone who will steal from other by selling it .Systems are stacked with one another and are sold as is if you get one and works your lucky and if not then to bad you don't get...
