Fantastic facility. Just voted as one of the best small libraries in America (again!). The reading room is like something from a movie. The children's area is great and has much to offer. There's always something going on, so check the website for information. Also, the library website has discount passes for local museums and zoos.

The grounds are very pretty. Small fountain and pool, bocce court, stone steps. Great place to walk around after spending tine inside.

The town has undergone gentrification, and even individuals with accents, regardless of ethnicity, face discrimination. Some library staff members are not particularly welcoming. For instance, when we returned books, I asked for confirmation that they were checked in on the spot to avoid any potential issues. Instead, I was curtly instructed to drop them off in the outside box. On another occasion, I forgot my library card but presented my ID. The staff member I dealt with was quite rude, so I ended up paying for a replacement card—only to find my original card at home later.

I suspect these experiences may be influenced by my accent. As a result, our interactions with staff have been minimized. We now return books via the outdoor dropbox and use self-checkout, even when staff offer assistance. While some employees are friendly, a few are not. This is the first time I’ve encountered such issues...

Wow! What a gem!! Beautifully restored/updated library on the Ames family estate. Books for everyone, including a children's room and teen den. CDs DVD's and vinyl albums available. Separate building which was a summer retreat for the family in the early 20th century houses antiquarian books. There's space available for meetings conferences, classes, and more. Outdoor pavilion for regularly held monthly concerts. Restored original gated stone posts. Outdoor reflecting pool with fountain. Well maintained grounds. Has to be seen to fully appreciate what this treasure of a library offers. A must visit again and again for...

The Queset House, a property owned by and right next door to the Ames Library, is a beautiful place to host an event! I attended a bridal shower there in September 2011 and was very impressed with the space provided for the party. The gardens are very well kept, and the house is spectacular. Everything is fully period and well restored if not original. The library may be the last place you'd think of to host an event, but this one is a great value for a lovely, first-rate location. And, you're supporting a great community...
