Jones's Farm has been a favorite in my family for at least 70 years. My grandmother could remember going there to pick berries way back when. For my parents (and now for my sister and me), it remains one of the best farm stands in Harford County from their homegrown strawberries in spring, through beautiful tomatoes and sweet white corn in summer, to winter squash and massive pumpkins in the fall. In recent years, Jones's farm has been partnering with nearby dairies and farms to provide high quality milk, cream, ice cream, cheese, meats, and fresh eggs. They also offer small batch honeys, jams and preserves, peanuts in the shell and so much more. To keep up with changing times, Jones's started a CSA (community supported agriculture) program which seems to be very successful. At this writing, during the scourge of COVID-19, their business continues to boom. The fruits and vegetables are kept behind plexiglass, as are the friendly staff members to protect both customers and employees. Customers are required to wear masks and maintain appropriate distance. The staff will cheerfully provide customers with a pre-printed shopping list to order their produce, and then the cashier maintains helpful communication with customers as bags and boxes are filled. "Is this for tonight or in a few days," the attendant might ask so that the fruits and vegetables are at the perfect stage in ripening. "How are the peaches today?" "Is the sweet corn from Maryland?" "What's the best way to store these greens?" and "How do you like to prepare this squash?" shoppers ask--and the staff consistently provides useful information throughout the day. This place really is an old-fashioned farm stand with an up-to-the-minute sensibility for the produce needs of today's consumers, all packaged in a happy, kind, and efficient package. Highly...
Read moreI've been to Jones Family Farms once to poke around and see what they have to offer. However, this time I was in need of vegetables for a garden I'm growing this summer and Jones Family Farms blew me away.
I browsed through all of their condiments, ice creams, and fruits & vegetables, which they had some pretty unique items that piqued my interest. But their wide selection of vegetables and herbs for planting in your garden gave me endless possibilities of things to plant. With so many rows of outdoor plants and garden selections I think you'll definitely find what you're looking for. Jones Family Farms has a good variety of tomatoes and peppers as well as different variations of your traditional herbs. I was able to grab some amethyst basil, which is a beautiful shade of darkish black, purple. They also had a vast number of lettuces to choose from to grow a healthy salad in your garden. All of Jones' items seem to be reasonably priced, given the quality of their plants and what you would pay at some other big-name stores like Home Depot or Loews. I couldn't stop myself from picking up little pots of garden staples but eventually told myself enough for now.
Whether you're a newbie to gardening or an avid gardener, I think Jones Family Farms is a great spot to gather your planting necessities. And of course, they have you covered with all of the beautiful flowers to make your...
Read moreHave gone to jones family farm for a few years for Christmas trees have gone to their tree farm 12/1 in street this year and didn't see any trees we liked so went to the stand on rt7, where we got our tree last year as well. This year we found a tree we liked $79 dollars. There isn't a shaker at this location but the tree was wrapped and placed into the truck by the employee. Got it home and in a stand right away and watered it and added the tree additive for needle drop from their farm stand. the needles were dropping like crazy while unwrapping it. Waited a day and checked the water went down a bit and topped it off the tree is got to be dying the needles are literally everywhere we decorated it and there is like 5lbs of needles on the floor I can't imagine the mess when Christmas is over and we remove our decorations. Just crazy to spend the money on a tree for it to be basically dead. I must say that the farm stand is always freindly and a great local produce stop just upset with this year's tree and the price it cost to have a real tree and get something on...
