I had to get a hotel in Elizabethtown although I was going to Bardstown so an online friend suggested I go to the Cars of Yesteryear. I did and boy was I not disappointed. First, it's a building located at a huge car dealership so look closely - the building has Cars of Yesteryear on it. I'm not into cars other than to drive them but seeing all the fabulous cars from years before (I can't call them old as they look brand new) was just amazing! I loved the Packard that had the grey Poupon mustard in it. For those my age, you'll recall the commercial of the same. All makes and models of cars and each one impeccably restored, clean, shiny, and very interesting. Like cars that had their side view mirrors attached with leather straps to the spare tires that were kept on the outside of the car on each side. Shiny metal cigarette lighters and ashtrays. Plush interiors. Steering wheels that were huge. As for my hostess and host, they were so kind and friendly and offered to open any door of a car so I could see the interiors more closely. Make sure you sign the guest book which I did lovingly. Great recommendation from my friend and great time visiting this rare...
Read moreMy wife found this place on the internet while looking for new places to visit. It took a bit of work to find the building due to it's being on the car lots owned by Swopes. However, I fell in loved the moment I walked inside the building and saw cars so beautiful and so inviting to drive them(which one cannot do)! From Packard, Ford, Chevrolet, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, and Chrysler I was sent back to my childhood years. Each vehicle were brought back to their original shape along with a plaque stating specs as well any other interesting notes. Long story short, go and enjoy the free museum if you love cars...
Read moreWe were unsure whether we had time to stop during our road trip. The free admission actually had us worried the 25 minute detour was not going to be warranted. However... this place was amazing. There are a lot more vehicles than expected and all are beautifully kept. The folks working the museum shared personal stories about each car, answered questions and even opened up the cars to show us more features. This stop is well worth it! They even have restrooms available. We spent just over an hour there before returning to our road trip.
Bravo to these fine folks for sharing this collection with...
