A regular destination for me and my paddle friends out of NYC. The beach at the north end is 8.73 miles from Manhattan Kayak Co. (next to Intrepid in Hell's Kitchen) on Pier 84 in Hudson River Park. For me it was fascinating to realize that the boat basin had not begun life as a picnic area for thousands of New Jerseyites, no, originally, it was built as the steamboat landing for the grand 500-room wooden hotel atop the cliffs called the Palisades Mountain House. That structure, built in 1872, only existed until 1884, when it burned to the ground within the space of just two hours without loss of life. In the general vicinity atop the cliff today is the campus of St. Michael's...another story.

First time here, ample parking right next to the Hudson River. Today can access the boat Basin from both Englewood Cliffs or Edgewater side. There's also a nice walk along the river. We were helping clean up a portion of the trail to make a reflection garden. There are also a few small beaches that one could use in summer.

Really nice place to visit! There's a narrow hiking trail, a small playground for kids, and lots of parking. Picnic tables are available and fishing is allowed here as far as I know. There's a really nice view of the city and a sandy beach area.
