Great place to have a picnic next to a playground in the city! In our case we grabbed pizza from Papa John's nearby and fed teenagers under a pavilion before we headed to a show at the Erie Playhouse. It was a fall Friday evening so all pavilions were open, but I know you can reserve them for parties and lots of people can be accommodated. What we didn't like seeing was all of the bits of balloons and confetti all over the ground which is terrible for the environment, but that's a human problem not the park. Read moreThis is my favorite park in Erie. It's close to the zoo, it has lots of shade, and it has play equipment for both younger and older kids. One warning though, the bathrooms are only open from Memorial Day until Labor Day. There are several picnic shelters and benches. It can be a bit crowded in the summer because the Y and the zoo take campers there during the day. I personally don't mind because it gives my kids lots of kids...
