As a lover of Indian food, I decided to try this one for my birthday lunch on March 5th since I hadn't heard of this place yet. I walked out with a new favorite Indian restaurant that day, I think they are better quality than Fine's! I had the Paneer Tikka Masala, my partner the Mushroom Xacuti, and we shared a plate of Veggie MoMo and their Vegetable App Basket. Everything was amazing, and you could tell was made with care, even down to the Tamarind and Mint Chutney (both of which were the best I've had at any Indian restaurant). The waitress was attentive and polite, we enjoyed the small sit-in ambience, and the chef is passionate about what he does and came to check personally on everyone's food when he had a moment to make sure it was enjoyable. He's a chef who worked for another Indian restaurant in Erie that struck out to make even higher quality Indian food available here, and he has greatly succeeded in my opinion! Currently they don't have a large sign so it was easy to miss at first, but TRUST YOUR GPS-it was definitely worth doubling back for! This is our new lunch spot since it's near us and is reasonably priced. I plan on going back today, so I'll make sure to take some photos to help the outside of the Erie Curry House be easier to ID for others who wish to visit it. I'm tempted to keep a secret gem like this hard to find, but they deserve great success, so I can't afford to be selfish! Try it - you will NOT regret it. Edit: Look for the old Chan-An Chinese Restaurant sign across from Walgreens, that's the building The Erie Curry House is...
Read moreDriving into work in Erie and as I was at the light at 38th and Peach, I noticed that the old Chinese restaurant had a new banner saying Erie Curry House.
Now I'm a man that loves a good curry, and the hotter the better (just my personal opinion). I decided I was going to make my way over and have lunch. Note: parking at this location is difficult. There are 2 spots out front and 2 on the side of the bldg but once you find a spot you're in for a treat.
I went full on fat kid and ordered my usual for an Indian restaurant. I started with Chicken 65 as an appetizer, Palak Paneer as my entree and a piece of bullet Naan. To drink, a Mango Lassi. I enjoy Indian food, and have had the pleasure of eating in many Indian restaurants in many cities (just check out my other reviews).
This place is very good. Not the best I've ever eaten, but I would certainly go back and dine again (which is my personal gauge of success, make me want to come back). I don't expect every restaurant to be perfect but I do expect that they put their best foot forward and they did just that.
This was a nice little surprise to my day in Erie today.
Best of luck Chef, the food was delicious and I will be back...
Read moreI recently moved to Erie and was craving Indian food. Since this place had high ratings on Google, I decided to get dinner last week. The ambiance wasn't great, but I didn’t think too much about it since I wasn’t dining in.
The food, however, was also terrible. The chicken was of poor quality and loaded with food coloring, making it inedible after just one bite. The rice in the biryani was hard and lacked flavor. Both the appetizer and the biryani ended up in the trash. It's clear that food safety and quality are not priorities at this establishment.
Initially, I thought this might be a one-off incident due to their high ratings. Upon further exploring Google reviews, it's apparent that the owners of this place attack people who leave genuine negative reviews. They seem uninterested in taking feedback constructively. I cannot support such a business and will avoid them even if I do not have any other options. One of those places that makes you wish Google allowed zero or negative ratings.
My friend who lived in Erie in the past told me that this place has changed their name 3 times. I’m honestly not surprised to hear that after...
