I came here the very first time a few weeks ago and was greeted very rudely with a very loud and aggressive shushing. I was with my toddler (3) and we were walking to the front door. He was asking me something as we walked in. He was speaking at a low and appropriate level. He was not yelling or being unnecessarily loud. We were literally just coming through the door and the librarian at the front dest shushed us so loudly and aggressively I was immediately taken back. Her shush was so loud I'm sure you could hear it echoing though the whole library. Much louder than my toddlers little mumbles. He hadn't even gotten fully into the building. I didn't know it was possible to shush with that much aggression. We went into the children's area and honestly I was not impressed. We normally go to the Scheben, and Main Branch, sometimes even the florence branch which are all relatively close to my home. We only went here because my toddler loves going on adventures and said he wanted to go to a library we haven't been to before. There was very little to do in this children's section in comparison to the other branches we've been to. My toddler walked though and didn't find anything entertaining to do and we left not long after. The scheben and Main library both have large children's area on the second level that have tons of activities to do. Trains, giant light brites, play kitchens, dolls, rocking horses, Lego tables, the list goes on. This library doesn't seem to like small children or want them in their facility. There was another toddler sitting outside who told us as we walked in that you have to be quiet in the library. I can only assume he was also shushed to oblivion the second he walked in the door. There are other local libraries who love littles. We're recognized at the scheben branch and the story time leader always comes up and talks to us when we come in and she absolutely adores toddlers! I don't know if I'd ever come back to this location. Between the rude staff and lackluster children's area I don't see any...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe love this library, and we love taking our children. However, some of the librarians/aides in the childrenās area are very rude. We have had these employees tell our child that they will take his library access, talk over us when we try to correct our child, and interject their own two cents after weāve spoke to our child. Our son is 3 and admittedly very rambunctious, but we are watchful parents and correct him when he is too loud or runs. However, it seems that the librarians in the childrenās area believe they instead can parent and correct our child, even if we are already doing so. I absolutely do not appreciate the disrespect, especially when we are attentive parents who make sure we take the opportunity to teach our child how to act responsibly in public. Thereās one in particular named Maria who had a very rude, screeching tone with our child as well as others. She told children she would take their access away, spoke over us when we went to correct our child, and then tried to make more comments to him after we had already remedied the issue.
