WARNING PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING!!!!! My husband and I checked in Thurs Sept 28, 2023 after driving from Louisiana for our 42nd Wedding Anniversary. We planned to stay in the Hummingbird Cabin at $299.00 per night from 9-21 to 9-30-2023 before ELK FEST.. (10 nights = over $3000.00 + tax) I had to leave on advice from my pulmonary dr, because my pulse oxygen was 88 and wouldn't come up. Beth, informed us Idlewilde at the River doesn't refund $$ no matter what the circumstance.. Not even for medical reasons! On advice from my pulmonologist, We had to leave Sat Morning, 9/23/23 at 10 am, drove straight through, arrived at home at 5:10 AM Sunday morning.||Our Total Charge was $299 night at 10 nights plus tax, = $3000.00. We only stayed 2 nights because of medical reasons, After strongly suggesting a refund, on Tuesday 9/26 Beth gave us $649.52 refund. Her response.. I couldn't book 1 night so you are responsible for that night however I was fortunate enough to give someone else a 1/2 price rate to help you out, However you would be responsible for paying the remainder of that couples rate which totaled the remainder of the rate. IE: Me a sick person which had to be taken by ambulance to the ER on Sunday night when I returned home, is paying for 1/2 of a total healthy persons rate just because they need the money. ||Review on the inside: The beds were extremely old and hard, bathroom sink leaked, no outlet for hairdryer in bathroom where I could see in a mirror, over 6 electric sockets were loose in all rooms and we couldn't plug in our electronic devices, tiny refrigerator. My sleep consisted of 4 hours on a love seat with a travel oxygen concentrator durning my entire stay from 9-21 to 9-23. Anyone can run a business, however Customer Service is the most important thing in the HOSPITALITY BUSINESS! IF YOU VALUE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY --- IF YOU DON"T THINK PEOPLE SHOULD CHARGE YOU JUST BECAUSE THEY WANT TO.....DON"T STAY HERE! YOU WON"T GET YOUR MONEY BACK! ||||Debi Johnson||Shreveport,...

We were so delighted to find this gem located on the beautiful Big Thompson River literally at the gate of the Rocky Mountain National Park. Our hope was to find a quaint cabin where we could enjoy the sounds of the rushing river and soak in the crisp mountain air and Idlewilde delivered in a big way. Dun Workin’ cabin #9 was just feet from the river’s edge complete with the ambiance of a fire pit, surrounded by pines and aspens. We felt a feeling of seclusion even though we were in the company of friendly neighbors and also staff close by to accommodate any needs or issues that arose. The cabin was small but perfect for just the 2 of us and so clean and well furnished with everything we could want. We were particularly impressed with the kitchen & how well it was furnished with cookware, dishes, flatware, utensils, coffee maker, dish towels, even spices! The entire cabin was impeccably clean. A big thank you to Emily for all that hard work to make sure all those needs were furnished and for being such a gracious host. You were so helpful with tips on how to navigate Estes Park’s amenities, we appreciated it more than you know. And kudos to Mike and Beth for a well managed property. You were both so courteous and kind and made us feel like old friends even though we had just met. Well done. See...

We stayed here in Aug. 2025. These cabins are right on the Big Thompson River, but they are old, not well maintained, and their cleaning crew needs training (or they just don't care). The shower was disgusting, dirty, moldy and the shower curtain had mold and a mysterious red algae growing on it. I wore my flip flops to take a shower. The bed was horrible, no support, and I think the lower half of my body was at a 45-degree angle from my head. Sheets were old and stained, not even sure if they were changed from the previous occupant. The foundation of our cabin (#5, Ataloa) is caving in, as the floor sloped down as you walked from the bedroom to the bathroom, and the toilet is unstable (wobbled when you sat on it). The carpet was stained. There is also nobody on site to assist with problems. You must call and hope you get someone and hope for a quick response. I spoke to the women staying in the #6 cabin next to us and they agreed that the cleanliness of their cabin was also not adequate. Thank goodness we were there for only one night. After we checked out, I spoke to and emailed the Operations Manager, Armand, and requested some monetary compensation for all the issues with our cabin. I never got a reply nor any refund. I will never stay...

Staying at Idlewilde by the River Cabins was nothing short of magical. The location is unbeatable—tucked right along the river, surrounded by towering pines, with the soothing sound of river water flowing just outside your door. We stayed in the Ataloa cabin which literlly sits on the waters edge, and I highly suggest this cabin. The cabins strike the perfect balance of rustic charm and but just enough modern comfort: cozy, spotless, and pretty well stocked with everything you need. And decent cooking wear which always makes a difference if you like to cook. Staff member was responsive immediately and was also kind enough to allow us a later check out. Whether you’re sitting by the rivers edge, or wandering along its banks, or just enjoying the peace and quiet from your private deck, it’s the kind of place that makes you slow down and breathe a little deeper. We left completely recharged and already can’t wait to come back. If you’re looking for a serene mountain getaway with true Colorado charm, this is it.

Idlewilde by the River is one of my favorite places I've ever stayed. We rented a 2 bedroom cabin for my family and a 1 bedroom for my parents. The little kitchen and fridge was just enough to be able to make some meals on our own and my favorite thing was sitting on the screened in porch listening to the rushing river. The owners were amazing. Since the cabins are old (from early 1900s), the A/C doesn't work very well. They texted us on one of the warmer days saying they left us some brand new fans. Those made a huge difference for us. My kids really enjoyed using the hot tub and chasing the dandelion seed that were flying around in the air. The cabins were so close to RMNP and the center of estes park so I felt like we were in the perfect location as well. Highly recommend, even though I'd like to gatekeep this place for myself.

I would return. The beds are comfortable. The rooms are spacious. The grounds are gorgeous. We had elk visit and cross the river. The porch had dirty ash trays. The common area smelled like smoke. There was no hand soap in the bathroom. The shampoo, conditioner, and wash were nice. The bathroom is in good repair. ***We were without hot water in the shower until day 3 of our 4 day stay. Very aggravating.***
