Gorgeous scenery here, with a pristine lake and several 12,000'+ peaks in clear view, including Longs Peak.
There's a very easy, level trail that loops directly around the lake, and a slightly more challenging route that takes you up in the hills just north of it. If you're looking at Google Maps or the official NPS map, it seems as though there would be a clearly-defined way to get to and from this Lily Ridge Trail. However, AllTrails shows multiple places where there's branches that lead back to the short trail, and this was the more accurate experience we had when hiking: it wasn't super-well marked as you're descending back toward the lake's elevation (assuming you're going counter-clockwise). That said, I think you'd be hard-pressed to get lost here. If you can't see the lake anymore, it's probably time to make your way a different direction.
One word of warning if you have to park across CO-7 (which is a distinct possibility, as this is a pretty popular trail with a small lot): be careful crossing the highway! Even though it is state law that drivers must stop, that isn't always the case. People heading northbound (downhill) also might be going just a teensy bit over the speed limit, making braking in time a tad trickier. Drivers heading southbound (uphill) may also have difficulty seeing you if there's lots of cars parked on both sides of the road, as was the case when...

The trail around the lake is easy and accessible for all skill levels, making it an ideal spot for families and those looking for a gentle hike. The path provides stunning views of the surrounding mountains, particularly Longs Peak, and the reflection of the peaks in the calm waters of Lily Lake is simply breathtaking.

Read moreThis is a great stop for some shorter hikes. We spent a couple hours exploring here. The loop around the lake was very easy and relaxing with some interesting wildlife. While not fully paved, the lake loop was still flat and fairly wide in the areas that were dirt path, so it's definitely kid and stroller friendly, possibly even wheelchair accessible. There's another trail (rugged/moderate difficulty) that goes up the boulders to the right and has beautiful views from above that I highly recommend if you have the time/ability. The main parking area has vault toilets available. There is an additional parking lot across the street, as the main parking area was small. Most importantly, this trail was free to access and free to park. With so many extremely popular RMNP trails in the area, many trails either have paid admission or are free with paid parking. However, Lily Lake is truly free and a wonderful way to experience the park and the...
