Antares Minerals & Pottery — Attraction in Evanston

Antares Rock Shop in Evanston is the best rock/crystal/ceramic/pottery business I have come across. If it is possible to give this shop more than 5 stars, I would. The staff has always been so kind. This little shop on Front Street, with the colorful dinosaurs out front, is an amazing jewel. It has been there for over 26 years now and has amassed quite a collection of rarities and hard-to-find items. When my collection is brimming with inner-city crystals... but I know, there is more to be found or cannot find something specific - I take a trip to Wyoming just for this shop and find even more. Stones, crystals, and gems from around the world! Rough and tumbled. Fossils, pottery - paintings on fossils and pottery. Clusters, geodes, jewelry, Palo Santo... I could go on and on. But I will just say, this little shop is such a rare and solid find. It is worth traveling to, even to get a few stones like apache tears, wulfenite, pietersite, peacock ore, obelisks, pyramids, and even... rocks that react to black lighting! Thank you Antares,...

As a Geologist I always experience instant rage when I walk into a rock shop and they #1 have things labeled incorrectly and #2 outrageously price a chunk of quartz. This place was a delightful opposite to those. There were also many rough cut or non polished samples and rocks and some of the less known finds. The prices were not absurd and because of that I bought much more than I usually do. Absolutely would recommend this place! Used to go here a lot when I was a little kid and my aunt lived around the corner. Recently stopped by with my family while taking them to Fort Bridger Rendevouz and it's still just as awesome as I remember. Tons of sweet fossils and rocks and things to check out.
