I took my three grand daughters whom are mixed their mom is white and their dad is african american or black however you choose to say it. I want them to know where they came from on both sides of their national origin because sometimes it is important to know what you started from to help you keep perspective on where you want to go in life. Our race (so called) or our gender should not set us back and it cannot unless we let it. The only person besides yourself that can cause you to fall down and stay down is Jesus or well actually the Father God he only does it for a very short time because all parents should teach a proper balance of love and discipline in their homes and abroad. Anyways love y'all and God truly loves all of us more than we know sometimes i know because the Bible tells me so. Jesus loves us all red and yellow black and white we are presious to his sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world. We were all children once remember? Lets help be the example in our childrens lives don't try to teach the do as i say not as i do method. The museum is easy to access, there is free street parking in front and around the building. Packed with a lot of local history, this little museum (now expanding across the street) is a well of information and links connecting to larger events.
Wonderfully displayed are past and current artwork, touch screen interviews, and an interactive space for younger visitors. Very clean and well kept. It's a gem in the city.
A special shout out to the tour guide "Ms. Queen". She did an amazing job on the tour. Consent to record her favorite area of the museum was given, and transparency given to ensure that no recordings would be used online or on social media (i.e., respect her privacy).
Be sure you are asked and very clear when purchasing your ticket 🎟, that is, whether you would like a guided tour or a self-led tour. The museum administrator will make a purchasing call for you if you do not specify and then clarify. Prices do vary $5/$7. The museum missed a star due to not accurately processing my ticket purchase...
