Fairmont has developed a wonderful riverside park on land that 60 years ago was one of the worst areas of our city. There is now a waterpark for the little kids, lots of park benches, several park benches, an amphitheater, nice accessible restrooms, and a series of sidewalks for wheelchair users, strollers, rollerskates, or for a relaxed walk. Thre grounds are nicely maintained. In the summer they have weekly events that are free! Palatine Park is a wonderful asset for Fairmont. There are boat docks,but I don't have a boat, nor do I know everyone with a boat, so I cannot report on that other than to say they have them. There is only one bad thing to say about Palatine Park: there is NO ACCESSABLE RAMP to get from the upper street level to the park itself. As a wheelchair user coming the from my nearby home, I have to be in the street until I am there. This is so stupid! Everything in the park is accessible, and if you park in the spacious parking lot, the accessibility is well thought out. Hopefully my meeting with the mayor will change that, but...

   Read morePalatine Park is a nice place in Fairmont for what they have done in the past 5 years. there is an ampitheater, public restrooms and lots of picnic tables. it was strange that I couldnt find a water fountain. also there is a sign that says no dogs. I dont own a dog, but it may be helpful to others. this park is mainly for events, it doesnt have swingsets and other play equipment. There is a small water park apparently that shoots water from the ground but no pool. there are also fixed grills where you can bring your own charcoal. final note, bring mosquito spray.
