Marion County Historical Museum — Attraction in Fairmont

This museum is in an old house which used to be the county's sheriff's ex officio residence. The wrought iron bannister and other details of the century-old house are worth a look, and it's filled with old furniture, tools, and some clothes with connections to local families. One of the nice staffers will be pleased to guide you into the upper floor of the Marion County jail. There is no need to fly to Alcatraz when you can see similar incarceration technology right here. This is a small historical museum with a BIG SURPRISE! The docents-Gladys and Cheryl, are very happy to show you around and provide some history of the building and of the vicinity.
