I rode recently around Paris and connected towns. The trail is asphalt here and in good enough condition for gravel bikes and mtn bikes. There are good food and nice people in this area.

I am glad to see this trail is gaining popularity. I helped with the trail clearing a few years back, and rode it many times with family on all kinds of bikes including tandems in the Halloween charity ride. I had a nice ride today, enjoying the area between Farmersville and Celeste. Bring crocks or something for 1 low spot near the high school before Merit , and for lounging off the bike. There are some tent areas with berms for wind breaks. Tent lights are a good idea so kids don't bmx jump onto your camp. There is plenty of good food in Farmersville and Celeste. No restrooms or water on the trail, past the onion shed area, but there are lots of benches and trash cans for resting. Please...

Sturdy tires are a must on this trail if riding on the ungroomed portions. There are plenty of muddy puddles (two days after a major rain) and sharp rocks between Farmersville and Celeste. A loaded touring cycle is not recommended unless bone dry or you have the right equipment and enjoy a punishing ride. Between the major roads and small towns are peaceful quiet spots with plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing. You may encounter loose farm dogs and most likely horses on the trail. Be kind and dismount. I am happy to hear that improvement is coming to this trail via grant money announced in Aug. Of 2022. Having access to a long distance trail that is comfortable for a loaded bicycle will greatly increase the quality of cycling...

This is a really nice trail with a well-maintained trailhead that feels safe for long-term parking. The first 5 miles are great—smooth, scenic, and ideal for biking or walking. The people on the trail are friendly and welcoming, making it a pleasant experience early on.

However, beyond the 5-mile mark, the conditions become unpredictable. The trail turns to rough gravel in some areas, which could be a risk for bike tires. I also encountered some loose dogs, litter, and even what looked like an abandoned or stolen vehicle, which made the later part of the trail feel a bit unsafe.

Overall, it’s a great option for a short ride or walk, but be cautious if you plan to go beyond the...

The trailhead is at the Onion Shed which has a farmer's market first Saturdays each month except January and October. The first 4.5 miles of this 130 mi trail is paved or compressed pebble through a canopy of trees offering shade and beautiful fall color. If all 130 miles were maintained with bicycling-safe surfaces, this could be an ADA trail which should be considered by the new Texas state parks oversight voted for in Nov. 2023. Watch for the hoof divits and washed out areas if you have children learning to ride bicycles or seniors wanting to exercise.
