The parking is $50 if you are not a fisher's resident. There is a reasonable parking charge that ensures upkeep of the facility and parking lot. That would be around 5 or 10 dollars. Charging $50 explicitly shows that the city of fishers doesn't want people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds or other neighborhoods to visit this public site. They defend themselves by saying that anyone is welcome to come, but they can't park unless they pay the charge. This rings hollow. How great is their desire to keep "those people" out of their upper class white suburban space? I had a delivery to a neighborhood just down the road from the water park and was turned away from entering the neighborhood by 3 police officers and three squad cars who were blocking the entrance to the neighborhood. They rudely told me to get moving and not block traffic, and I drove a couple miles to find a back entrance to the neighborhood. Was it a crime scene? No. They were using three squad cars worth of police resources because "people weren't supposed to be parking there." These are residential streets that are not posted as no parking zones. There is no permit parking or signage or ordinance and the police were not ticketing people for legally parking there. The city invested these resources to make sure that outsiders who were totally "welcome to use the waterfront Park" could not have access to legally park and walk to it. This deplorable gatekeeping of a public resource to deny people of neighboring cities is not reciprocated by Indianapolis or other cities with ample parking, beautiful parks, and policies that are...
Read moreWe just came back today for the 3rd time and are having so much fun on the beach in the soft sand and on the playground. Here’s a review for other moms: the sand is super soft and clean, which is perfect for the kids to play in and doesn’t hurt their little feet. There is really unique play equipment on the beach in the sand which has been a lot of fun, including a big wooden water table. Lots of families are having picnics in the sand, or under the cabanas. The swings are so nice and allow for adults to swing alongside their babies or toddlers which is great. I love the play set, it’s a giant boat and there is another one for the babies and toddlers. The playground has really soft padding which I appreciate as a mom because I’m sitting on it half the time with my baby. The water isn’t so clean but it’s Geist so that’s to be expected. I honestly love it here, and I have lived in Geist a long time and have wanted something like this ever since we first visited. I can’t wait for the summer to bring the kids and play. Good job Fishers, we appreciate you making...
Read moreIt’s a cute park in the idea is great! However, I would not pay $50 to enter. The playground equipment was very hot in my toddler would not even go down the slide because of it. And that’s just in May so I can’t imagine what it will be like in June.
The lake definitely has some swampy vibes but that’s also part of Geist in general. I can see those who enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding enjoying the space.
The beach does face Olio Rd so it’s not exactly the kind of vibe I would be looking for to go relax and read a book (but I’m not doing that with a toddler anyway). All the kids that were there seemed to enjoy it. Definitely bring beach chairs.
Last thing, it would have been awesome to have more shaded spots because those are limited and will fill fast. Even just putting those triangular canopy sunshades above the younger kids play area would have been awesome. Oh, a good splash pad might have made this more worth it also.
Again, awesome idea! And for Fishers residents, it’s awesome to...
