We're so glad to have discovered this place! Indy is still in the maturing process from a sleepy midwestern city to a more bustling metropolis. That, in itself, is not a bad thing. However, what it also means, especially for foodies, is that we're left with a dearth of good ethnic cuisine choices. Now onto the Yak & Yeti review. My family, friends, and I have attended this restaurant a handful of times over the course of 3 months so far. And we're unanimously pleased! The flavors of the dishes are spot on; and the rice is prepared well (south asian, middle eastern style; which means that it's not sticky). Beware, that there's no beef on the menu, as to the strictures of a hindu diet (cows are sacred animals). The cuisine is considered Nepalese in nature, however, it most closely reminds me of Indian cuisine. Furthermore, some of the dishes even have the same names and ingredients, such as, chicken tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, or chicken curry. The types of meat on the menu are, nonetheless, varied in nature. They range from chicken, to lamb, to goat, to fish and shrimp, and even to yak. Yes, you read that right, YAK! For appetizer, we've tried and liked the "Yak C. Momo", "Lamb Shish Kabob", and the "Mixed Special Grill". The "Garlic Naan" was delicious. Next time, we're fixing to try the "Rosemary Naan" variation. For the main course, we've had the "Lamb Vindaloo", "Chicken Bhuna", "Goat Kadai", and "Suki Sabzi". They have an extensive vegetarian menu, since all the dishes can be prepared sans meat. Beware, as mentioned in the menu, all goat dishes are bone-in; however, all other meat selections are boneless. The spiciness of the dishes can be varied from 1 -- 10, at the time of order. I usually go with "10", and find it tolerable but with a sting. My wife, however, sticks with "1". For drinks, they have a reasonable selection of wines and beers, and a few cocktails. I've had a couple of the ethnic brews, with good result. I would like to try some of the Lassi drinks, on a future visit. Unfortunately, we've been so full, that we haven't had a chance to try any of the desserts. Bon Appetit!
Update September, 2025: We’re still enjoying Yak and Yeti. We get there a couple of times a month. I’m torn between telling everyone I know about this restaurant and keeping it a secret…lol. We’ve had the opportunity to try more of their dishes…I never thought I’d be such a big fan of Himalayan food, but here we are…they’ve convinced me. And the staff are amazing. Several of them now greet us by name. We really appreciate Sonail and the rest of the staff.
I do hope you stop in some time. I think you’ll enjoy it. (And try the...
Read moreOVERRATED RESTAURANT. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Took my daughter here to celebrate her birthday and wish I didn’t!!! We ordered 3 dishes. They brought out my dish first then we sat there waited and waited and waited. My girls were STARVING and my dish was getting cold!! I saw the server carried a tray that looked like our order but she walked straight to another table that came in AFTER us!! She never came back to check on us only stood a distance and looked. I decided to wave her down and asked where’s the rest of the food was! She took off and went behind the curtain then came back stood by the computer still didn’t say anything. I signaled her to come over just then she admitted our food was given to the wrong table. Told me “thanks for your cooperations” The owner could have offered us something to snack on while waiting for them to remake the missing fishes!! Instead they left us sitting there hungry while waited for them remake the food! It ruined the happy vibe of our birthday outing!! Lousy customer service to say the least! At the end they brought out ONE small cup of desert and THREE spoons as if that makes up yo their lousy customer service! This owner is so stingy when they overprice Mango Shrimp $19 for one medium oval plate that consists of 10 shrimps laid on a thin layer of sauté onions and green peppers, no rice or anything sides included! The food here are very similar to many other Indian restaurants we have been not to mention of the generous portions we usually got where else. This place is completely OVERRATED!! DO NOT GO HERE AND WASTE YOUR MONEY!! This place needs more attention on customer service and less focus about making profit!!! Zero star if I...
Read moreWe decided to try this Nepalese restaurant along with few friends. The interior of the hotel is nice, the sitting arrangements were not too clumsy. But that was the best part of the restaurant.
We ordered, chicken tandoori, Chicken tika masala, Naan, Chicken Bhuna masala. We got complimentary papad with green and sweet sauce. Thumb rule is if any Indian chicken item is served with chicken breast only then its not aiming for indian crowd and just skip the restaurant when choosing. We had the same issue, all the curries had boiled chicken breast in them. Tandoori chicken was good but dry. Seems like it was prepared sometimes ago and was reheated served. Asking for some green chutney took forever. Also our request to bring naan with Tandoori chicken was ignored even after 2 requests. Naan was under cooked i.e. you can feel the raw dough in your hand. But the waitress was quick to bring us freshly made ones. The first server lost his patience before taking our order and left midway saying you can order the rest later. That was a shock but the lady was quick to come and take full order. Also between meals when we tried to look for someone to order extra items , no one was available in sight. we had to wait .
The quantity is not for the price being charged and there are other indian restaurants doing much better. We will not visit this restaurant for indian food any more. One thing we could have done was to try nepalese food which we couldnt. We may try it if there is a chance to return. But never for...
