I grew up at 50 Franklin Rd. Directly across from and South of Park Hill. We had many, many hours of fun and adventure in these "Pine's" as we used to call the woods there. Riding our bikes around the Donught, and sliding down the hills on our "Red Fliers". I'm talking the 1950's & 60's. The Sandhill Brook came from the giant sand hill which once stood where the Park hill Plaza is located now. Also many adventures sliding down this hill as well. In those days we were only home to sleep, eat, and watch a little TV. Not like today's kids. There was one very unfortunate incident in 1953. My cousin, Kenneth Miller, Drowned in PK. Hill Pond. At the time it was called "Robarge", after Mr. Robarge who lived there. Kenny was only 4 years old at the time and I was 6. As we got a little older we played a lot of base ball and foot ball at Billy Monday Field. They used to have a lot of summer outings at the park in those days with Rides, Horses, and big raffels of bikes and cars. We played basketball and swam in the pond. even walked or crawled through the sand brook culvert pipe which used to empty into the Pond. Around 1960 while ice skating on Robarg a young childe fell through the ice. Myself and two friend's rescued this youngster and were celebrated as heroes. We received the Key's to the city from our Mayor at the old Elks on Wallace Ave. Thank God this event ended joyfully. Thanks for letting me share this little bit of local history of the Park...
Read moreThis was a great skateboard park for the kids. Definitely worth the 25 min ride. Park has fun for all ages. Ramps for bikes on one side, other side scooters and skateboard as well as roller skating. Both very challenging! The other side of the park was an area for smaller kids to play on the jungle gym and swings. In the warmer months you will be able to cool off In the sprinkler park area. It is not very big, but serves it's purpose. Also along the perimeter is a walking trail I think maybe connected with a school because when we were visiting a bunch of kids were walking from school. Also the park had an area where you could play basketball. The Parking lot was conveniently located on the scooter park end. If you are going to go and watch your kids bike or scooter , BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR I didn't see benches anywhere. ( Thankful I brought one just in case) A dumpster was located in the Parking lot.....but appeared NO ONE chose to use it. Trash was everywhere 😡. My concern would be the kids either picking up something....or tripping over something landing on the wrong thing... hopefully it will be better maintained. If it was cleaner it'd definitely be a 5 🌟 my only suggestion..."No smoking signs" not that it would make a...
Read moreHonestly a great park. The newer side to the playground is great. All the kids seem to really like the turnaround thing, at least when Im there that's where I see them play. The ground has a few holes tho like deep enough for a kid to trip on. The older side needs to be replaced or at least repaired, it's dangerous. The splash pad was also great. A few of the sprinklers weren't working. They had two staff members on duty who did a great job at paying attention to all the kids running around. The grass surrounding the splash pad needs some love in my opinion and I did catch a tick crawling on my foot, but thankfully was able to flick away. There are...
