Went to Lucas with a friend on July 17th spend right at 200.00 on plants there. Planted them all and they were doing great except one plant, that particular plant cost me 39.99. I called them on 8/25/2020 @ 10:00 am and then called back at 10:19am.. to ask if they would replace it, the first person accidentally hung up on me so I called back and got someone different. The second person who’s name I did not get was super nice she looked me up in computer and said she would try to get an approval to refund my $$ since I Quite a ways away, I explained that I really loved the plant and wanted another if possible, she looked on her inventory and said she had 9 and that she would try and have one waiting for me at front desk. So today 8/26/2020 I went to exchange the plant, I got there and the first person was very rude and said it wasn’t their policy to do what I told her. She asked who I spoke with and of course I failed to get her name. The very nice person did say she just got into work before I called so I’m sure they can check the schedule. I was told to go get another plant and come back to the cashier which I did, first girl was gone so I explained it to the new person and she started in with the same about their policy. I told her again what I was told by phone and I drove from New Smyrna Beach to exchange the dead plant. Someone behind her started giving her opinion about the matter and so she called a manager according to her a “Lucas” was the ONLY one who could approve it. Then over the radio someone else piped in they didn’t approve it. Finally whomever was on radio said it was okay and they told me to read their policy from here on out there would be no exchanges. Lucas has a great selection of plants and a beautiful place, customer service is absolutely horrible. They acted like I was a liar when I have proof on my cell of calling 2 times, after spending close to 200.00 and 39.99 for the plant I returned that died I did not expect to be treated that way. I’m just one person but I have recommended them many times on my Local Facebook group and sent them lots of business. I myself will not be recommending them ever again and will also let all the groups I belong to about what happened today. Even if you have great plants you don’t treat people the way I was treated! It was also hard to find a replacement plant because out of the ones they had only 3-4 looked alive. Don’t think you’re so big that you don’t care how you treat people! One star for horrible customer service. UPDATE * The replacement I got from them I’d dying also. Here is what they have to choose from. I should have taken the 1/2 refund and ran. Can’t add the pic but the ones at their location are all dead as well!!! I have a pic but...

Read moreFor someone that is obsessed with butterflies and raising them, this place was a dream. A butterfly enthusiast/gardener could spend all day here. The only reason I spent just a couple hours was because of the sweltering heat but I gladly would have wandered around for even longer. First of all, the dizzying array of all kinds of plants was very impressive. I was mainly interested in the butterflies and I quickly found the mass of monarchs circling rows of various milkweed species. They have every kind of milkweed I've heard of. I saw many butterflies laying eggs on the plants and I saw some large caterpillars and even snails on the plants which was so cool. I made my way to the butterfly encounter in the gift shop, paid 7$ to enter and enjoyed the different local species in all stages of growth. They explained that the population was a bit low at the time but there were still many painted ladies and zebra longwings and of course monarchs flying around or eating leaves as caterpillars. I've never seen so many hungry caterpillars in one area, the many milkweed plants were covered in what looked like hundreds of crawling monarchs! There is an enclosed area where you can place sugar water on your finger to entice the butterflies to feed from you. Like I said, I raise butterflies so my main motivation in coming here was to hopefully collect some eggs or larvae but I noticed signs in the encounter that said you cannot collect from that area so I asked if there were any plants with caterpillars on them for sale and they said yes, you just have to look around the nursery to find them. I gathered plants with many monarch eggs and some larvae as well as a few black swallowtail larvae. It was so much fun and I met a few other butterfly gardeners and we all talked about our wonderful hobby as we searched the plants for caterpillars. I highly recommend this place if you're into butterfly gardening or just gardening in general. There are enough plants to satisfy any gardening addiction. And the butterfly encounter is a great educational opportunity for people of all ages. Awesome...
