I have shopped in the Oviedo Staples store for over 25 years. Service has never been their stronghold but there has also never been anything that occurred that would compel me to ask to speak with a manager and/or write a review, until today.
First, the man working the Amazon returns was so rude and short with me as he acted annoyed that I didn't know what he expected of me. There was no conversing. I guess he thinks I should know their process? He acted exasperated as he said he was "waiting on me." Honestly, I was waiting for a prompt from him, as I didn't understand the next steps for my Amazon returns. I stated to the man, "can't you just ask me nicely? I said I don't know what you need. He stated he couldn't help me if I didn't know what to do which is when he said he was waiting on me to show him a code. I stated, "can't you just let me know that? I'm not sure what the steps are." At that point, he told me he can't read my mind! I was flabbergasted at that comment and stated that I thought he was being extremely rude and it was really unnecessary. In my mind, I'm thinking, " What is going on here? I simply came to send back two Amazon returns but what I got out of the exchange was I was bothering this man! He gave me a print out and said here you go Karen. Boy, if this is acceptable behavior and conversing with a customer then they (Staples) have really lost their way in their business and I made a big mistake in going there today.
I made a bigger mistake to think the manager would want to know what happened and would care how I was treated so I asked the man to please call his manager. He refused and said his manager was in a meeting. I then went to the photocopy area and asked the woman working that area to please call her manager. She asked me why and I briefly stated I had a poor customer service experience with the man at the Amazon counter and wanted to share it with their manager. After waiting a few minutes, I asked the woman if the manager was coming and she said, "She's very busy."
I waited a few more minutes when I noticed the male clerk speaking into his microphone and smirking which led me to believe he was speaking to his manager, who still had not come out, about the incident and his rude behavior. At this point, in my wait and seeing that the manager clearly didn't think an upset customer took priority I really thought about just leaving. Why bother? After considering that option, I felt that it was still the right thing to do to report the poor customer service. So I waited a few more minutes.
When Erin, the store manager finally arrived, she seemed rushed, and not at all open to hearing my concern. She didn't greet me, just rushed behind the counter and looked at me. I asked her if she was Erin, the manager and she quickly answered yes, how can I help you?
I then introduced myself and started to explain the experience I had with her male employee. Erin stated she'd already made up her mind that her employee did nothing wrong and stated "several" customers already informed her that the employee did nothing wrong.
That's when I realized how sad this entire episode really was. The employee gets away with arrogant, rude behavior and the inept manager is incapable of dealing with a troubled employee who's going to continue to cause the store issues.
Erin is in over her head, she's probably hard up for people who are willing to show up for work and because of this she will tolerate unacceptable behavior. She's clearly not capable of handling a customer complaint and her male employee knew this and knew he would get away with his rude behavior.
Iâve gotten such a bad impression from Staples because of the male employee and Erin, the âmanager,â that I realized I have a corporate account with Staples! Why should I continue to support a business that has no concept of how to treat a human being?
So itâll be an easy fix. In less than 60 days, Iâm pulling all of my Florida business away from Staples and giving it to Amazon. The...
Read moreIf you are in this parking lot, donât walk in, RUN AWAY, spend your money elsewhere. I purchased some printer ink and a usb cable through instacart, and unfortunately the shopper pulled the wrong ink, Instacart advised me to return in store and swap it out. I came in on Sunday, and Assistant Manager Joe came out after the cashier said she needed a manager because it was an instacart return. I could hear he telling him over a radio how much the ink was (which shouldnât matter if I want to simply exchange it). He comes out with a booklet in his hand and immediately tells me âyou deal with instacartâ. Not true as I had a live chat pulled up with them with a ticket number to give to the store. Joe didnât even attempt to walk to a computer to even type it in, just continued to insist that I had to deal with Instacart. So I grabbed my ink and left clearly upset, I called Monday morning to speak to the store manager and was told Erin is not in until noon. I left my name and phone number and they told me she would give me a call around 1230. It was almost 5 oâclock before I realized I had still not gotten a phone call so I decided to call, Erin is even worse than Joe. She was just as rude, didnât have any care in the world that all I want to do is simply exchange my ink for the correct one, she decided to tell me I was âbelligerent â as I was understandably getting aggravated because yet again there was no recourse. After asking for her Area Managerâs name and number I was told â800 Staplesâ she clearly must think I wonât pursue this, however a complaint on them has been logged and I will be getting a call today to speak with her superior. How these two are in management is beyond me, as they both have zero care for customer satisfaction. I will never spend my hard earned money with them. Drive to Best Buy.
EDIT.. after calling into corporate that same night, within 12 hrs I was contacted by the office of the staples president, given a credit to go into any staples and get what I needed, and apologized to for the complete lack of care on both Erin and Joeâs parts. I went back in to grab my ink, and let me tell you, Victor, who was a sales guy at the front, HE should be in management, WORLDS different of an experience when he was there. He genuinely cares about his job, I hope this gets read and he gets the recognition he deserves. I would be willing to give this location another chance to re earn my loyalty because of...
Read moreWow! I logged into leave a negative review due to the argumentative and rude nature of their employee, Andrea. However, I see that I'm not the only one that's had a bad experience at this location and with this employee. I will NEVER return to the Oveido Staples. I've never been to this location and only went to make an Amazon return. After joining the LONG line, I noticed that all Amazon returns were being processed in this line AND there was a regular sales line. Four customers were handled in the Amazon line while at least 3 were processed in the regular line. As the customer in front of me approaches the counter to be helped, Andrea literally asks him to move while she takes a customer from the sales line. The sales line customer approaches the counter and isn't ready. Do you think Andrea apologizes to the gentleman in front of me and actually helps him? No. She continues to help the customer that isn't prepared and doesn't even acknowledge the line. She makes the rest of us wait. When I said that she needed to help the customer who was actually there first, Andrea LIED and said that she had to help the other lady because no other registers were open. She said that the sales line comes first. It is worth noting that as soon as she made the guy move, another employee started to ring up another customer in the sales line. When I refer to that, Andrea disregards my question and asks 'Are you making an Amazon return' as if 1 - the gentleman isn't still waiting patiently and 2 - I'm not holding items for return.
The guy left so Staples lost that customer and while another competent person (unfortunately, I was too distracted to ask her name) helped me, Andrea was sent to the back. Was she sent to discuss her loss for the company or to learn how to treat customers? Nope. Did the manager who witnessed this incident apologize to me? Nope. Did they try to help the gentleman to keep him from leaving? Nope. Clearly from this incident and the other recent reviews, Staples does not care about their customers. Hopefully, this helps at least 1 other person - Your money and time are too valuable to be treated this way. Don't go to this Staples in Oveido. Let it close, which is what will ultimately happen with this caliber of employees like Andrea (a rude, disrespectful, confrontational liar) with no respect for customers. The Office Depot down the...
