Our Family ventured down from Jacksonville to see the Alligator Farm. Our timing coincided with a bit of a cold snap (more on that later) but our group, which included two very small children braved the slight chilliness to see the alligators, and crocodiles, and a bit more. the two little ones, loved the parrots that were openly out and about on trees near the middle of the park. from the center of the park we decided to stroll thru and look at the gators and crocodiles. Now here is where I get into the problem with cold weather, the gators and crocodiles are much less active in lower temps, so much of the animal exhibits we saw were rather well boring to the two little ones. It wasn't until we got the the swamp, that their little faces became engulfed in wonder and excitement. For those who haven't been, bring Quarters, luckily someone from our group had been before and thought ahead. they have vending machines for alligator food and you get to feed the alligators. the little ones really enjoyed it because they got to see the gators more active, and it was more interactive which helped keep their interest for much longer than I believe was possible. After the swamp you get to see Gomek followed by Maximo. I won't spoil it, but truly impressive. Following those two impressive exhibits we were greeted by a cassowary exhibit, and were able to really get to see this impressively dangerous bird up close, who definitely looked as if it was sizing up one of the little ones as its next meal. This place has so much to see, it's worth the visit and the exhibits are all very well kept and were designed to engage even the little ones. If you on the fence about going, I would recommend going, it left some awesome memories and truly was nice to see all the animals up close and everyone enjoyed the interactive swamp experience.
We’ve been pass holders at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm for a while now, and it’s one of our favorite local spots. The season pass is a fantastic deal, especially if you live nearby or plan to visit more than once. However, the single-day admission does feel a bit pricey for the park's size, so the pass is the way to go if you’re a repeat visitor. What makes this place stand out is the incredible variety of crocodilians—it’s one of the only places in the world where you can see all 24 species in one location. They also do meaningful conservation and education work, which we respect. Beyond the alligators and crocodiles, the zoo features other reptiles, birds, and mammals, plus a lovely elevated boardwalk through the rookery. It’s a hidden gem for bird watchers and photographers—especially during nesting season when the trees are alive with activity. We also really appreciate how ADA-compliant and stroller-friendly the entire park is. The paths are smooth and easy to navigate, which makes a big difference when visiting with young kids or anyone with mobility needs. The playground is a great bonus for families, giving kids a space to burn off energy. And the gift shop is surprisingly good—well-stocked with quality items and some fun, unique finds. It’s one of the better zoo gift shops we’ve visited. That said, if you’re not especially into crocodiles or reptiles, the experience may feel repetitive after a while. But for those who are—even just a little—the park offers a peaceful, well-kept setting to learn, explore, and enjoy nature. Overall, the Alligator Farm is a unique and charming spot in St. Augustine.
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm is a must-visit if you’re in the area! It’s so much more than just an alligator exhibit—it’s a full-on wildlife experience. From the smallest reptiles to the massive saltwater crocodiles, the variety of animals is incredible. What sets this place apart is how close you can get to the animals, and everything is well laid out with interactive exhibits and educational signs. The zookeepers are knowledgeable and friendly, offering fascinating talks and feeding demonstrations that really bring the experience to life. One of the highlights for me was the zipline course over the alligator and crocodile enclosures—such a thrilling and unique way to see the park! The bird rookery was also beautiful, offering a serene escape with stunning views. It’s the perfect spot for families, nature enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a fun and educational day out. They also have a snack bar and plenty of seating, so you can relax and refuel during your visit. Highly recommend adding this to your St. Augustine itinerary—you won’t be disappointed!
Update 2022-06-19 The birds that hatched in the rookery, have grown quickly. There are still many that have recently hatched. So, if you want to experience a rookery and see a number of different birds, you need to come before the end of June. Update 2022-04-15 Still the best. Today they were training wildlife authorities on how to capture an alligator. Once each were captured, a veterinarian gave them a health checkup and growth/weight check. Animal care is of the upmost importance. -------------------- I highly recommend this attraction. It is well maintained and has a great staff. They have much more than alligators. The animals include sloths, giant turtles, 3 varieties of Lemurs, birds, and so much more. The park also offers talks throughout the day. Besides animals they have many varieties of trees and plants. Oh, the gift shop is well stocked, and again staffed with a friendly group of people. Also, if you get too hot or hungry, they have a cafe with employees that are very friendly and go out of their way to serve you.
Wow an excellent experience with crocodilians galore, including some real rarities, and if crocs aren’t really your thing there’s plenty else besides, and the crew I encountered there were all very friendly and chatty, and they helped to make it a great experience. One thing I enjoyed the most were the feeding times, which were both dramatic and educational, and overall the atmosphere there is very pleasant with plenty of shade, with plenty of parking, and they also have a noteworthy gift shop. Wow the BIRDS!! This place is a birder’s DELIGHT, with many species going there to roost and reproduce, and even though the park itself closed at five when I was there, they allow serious birders to remain until around sunset, when great numbers of birds arrive in numbers to spend the night safe in the trees. Also the park is open in the morning for birders before it opens for the general public. Every birder should check this place at least once, and I was amazed at how many of the birds allowed close approach.
