We were in town for a long weekend; a friend strongly recommended getting subs from Cheba Hut. So I did a little research and found that in January 1998 in Tempe, AZ, founder Scott Jennings "decided to showcase the harmony between great tasting food and...well, a very specific counter-culture." Yup. All of the 25 signature sandwiches are named after types of 'merry-ju-wana.' Not to worry, the counterculture is only a theme and customers will find zero of the green weed in any food. Also on the menu are a variety of rice krispy bars, salads and munchies. Most locations feature full bars with local craft brew as does the St. Augustine location. Ceba Hut prides itself on having the best bread in the business and nothing is fried. Their motto: "where the only thing fried is an occasional customer." The proprietary Parisian bread is hand-rolled, hand-scored and baked by a bakery that has been in the business for over 50 years. Customers will choose from 3 sizes: the 4 inch "Nug;" the 8 inch "Pinner;" and the 12 inch "Blunt." You can also order any sub as a salad if you don't want the bread. The house dressing is Italian Vinaigrette, and the Cheba Shake is a mix of parmesan, oregano and proprietary Cheba Spice blend. The brochure provides the calorie count for each of the homegrown sauces. Toasted sub categories include Chicken and Turkey, Veggie and Meat. The 'translation' of each sub is provided. For example: the “White Widow” is Chicken, Bacon and Ranch. The “G-13” is Turkey and Roast Beef. The “Magic Mushroom” is Teriyaki Shrooms. Munchies and Cottonmouth Cures round out the menu. The subs were very reasonably priced at "10.89 each. They were huge and we had leftovers for another lunch. We were waited on immediately by a friendly young man who took our order for a White Widow Pinner and Acapulco Gold Pinner, both on wheat bread. While waiting, we noticed the large eat-in dining room and bar complete with counterculture decor. Parking is adequate; they weren't busy at 4:00 p.m. and we were in and out in a short time. The restaurant is located on Anastasia Island which can be congested. En route we had to wait for the drawbridge on the Bridge of Lions to close for boat traffic. Anastasia Blvd. is the main drag so you can expect some delays depending on the time of day. Don't let that worry you. You're toasted!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - A Culinary Oasis at Cheba Hut in St. Augustine! On a whimsical family adventure to St. Augustine, aiming to bask in its sunny embrace and sandy shores, we stumbled upon a treasure trove of flavors at Cheba Hut. This was no ordinary find; it turned our casual dining experience into a culinary pilgrimage, compelling us to return not once, not twice, but three days in a row! The allure? A menu so captivating, it made our taste buds sing and our family's collective heart swell with gastronomic joy. The kids declared the pretzel bites a unanimous hit, sparking joy with each bite. As for the adults, we embarked on a flavor journey with the KGB, French Dip, Sticky Icky, and the Super Cristo - each sandwich a masterpiece, crafting a symphony of flavors so divine, it felt almost sinful. These dishes weren't just meals; they were a revelation, elevating Cheba Hut to the lofty heights of my top 3 restaurants, a place typically reserved for the crème de la crème of fancy steakhouses. Yet, our Cheba Hut experience wasn't confined to the savory. The Fruity Pebble treats ensnared us with their delectable trap; a warning to future diners - they're irresistibly addictive! And the Hibiscus tea? A refreshing elixir, the perfect accompaniment to our feast, leaving us refreshed and beguiled. Alas, the bittersweet shadow to our Cheba Hut adoration is the absence of this culinary haven in our home state of Ohio. It's a reminder that some treasures are found only on journeys. Until Cheba Hut graces Ohio with its presence, our memories of those delectable days in St. Augustine will fuel our anticipations for future visits. Cheba Hut, you've stolen our hearts and our appetites!

I stayed for the weekend in St. Augustine as it is one of my favorites places in Florida and it is the oldest city in the United States. Christmas 🎄 Season in this area is beautiful 🤩. I wanted to have a great sandwich for lunch and researched the area. This place came highly recommended and I know now why! We tried three different sandwiches; Italian, Turkey and the Vegetarian. We ordered them with the Garlic Herb bread! All three were delicious! My favorite was the Italian one. It was one of the best one in my lifetime. The ambiance was superb. You go back to the hippies era. I definitely recommend this place if you are in the area and want to try one of the best sandwiches in your life. Thank you an awesome experience! I can’t wait to come back and try something new from the menu! ♥️♥️♥️

The Mrs and I visit this location on a normal basis. I am a local small business owner and I work in the field. She’s works down the road so often I order for us. We both have 30 mins for lunch unfortunately. I always do a mobile order and pick it up. I try to do it early to ensure it’s ready for me, bc it seems mobile orders are not on their priority list. It seems now that they have gone busier with the tourist, the locals suffer. I did an online order as usual, I sat there and watched at least a dozen people come in order their food, sit down and get their food. I had to cancel my order and go back to work, wasting my lunch break And we remain hungry. I think it’s best to take a break from this location until season is over unfortunately. Hopefully they put a little more effort into the locals that support them...
