The history here goes back to having an pecan orchard, a chicken farm, nursery & equestrian space over the last century. With the purchase of the land by Bernalillo county the old barn and home were removed and the land was preserved. There is an arboretum, an educational center, and several information signs along some foot paths. I took a moment to stop and smell the roses and meandered on, beyond the acequia and pond is the Bosque trail. This area is frequented by runners and cyclists especially. Beyond that I had seen Whooping cranes more ducks and returning back towards Bachechi I saw a roadrunner near by the arboretum we both watched each other for a while. I would return to see the side that I did not venture into, and appreciate the area that the people of the past have spent so much hard work and time invested into this great open space. Read moreThis space was nice and clean, the trails are amazing and very well maintained. However, we’ve been twice now and had issues with our dogs being bit by ants and getting stickers in their paws. The ants were easy to avoid for the most part, but there were a couple of spots along the way where the dogs stopped to potty and were getting bit. It really is a nice place, though. The creek is pretty and there were ducks swimming along it, which made for a pleasant view, but you can’t really get to the water and that’s something that my dogs would have...
Read moreBachechi is my go to spot for a quick walk whenever I'm traveling with the dog or just want a change of scenery. Bacheci is right next to the Alemeda Open Space, so if you follow the trails and then come back through the front of Alameda you can piece together a nice 1.5 mile walk with very little redundancy. You'll go through woods, a meadow, and then a paved trail. You can even stop and admire the ducks through some blinds. So take Fido or a young one or just yourself...
