Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania — Attraction in Fox Chapel

We visited for their native plant sale and it didn't disappoint. The shrubs and trees are excellent and they have some unusual native perennials. Pricing on the plants is quite high, $6 and up for small pots and seedlings (all the way to $40 for seedlings 🌱 of hard to propagate plants). I got there around 1pm and several things I wanted were sold out. It was busy despite the heavy rain.

The gift shop is lovely with a great variety of products, from books to bird feeders and gift items like puzzles and note cards. I managed to put a good dent on the debit card for Mother's Day out 😃 yay me.

Had the weather been nicer, we would have loved to walk around the nature reserve, but PA weather...

If you are looking for native plants - look no further - this place has the best collection I've seen in the area. The plants are mostly small, so not too expensive. The simple color-coded tags tell you how much each plant costs, and they do a great job of summarizing the needs of each plant with signage. The signs help you identify plants for problem areas, like shade, erosion control, deer and rabbit resistance, clay soil, etc. They also tell you what pollinators and birds you are helping with the plants. This is a great organization committed to native habitat cultivation. They take very good care of the Beechwood nature preserve and the garden center (Betsy:s Garden Shoppe) and gift shop are both excellent. There are signs with plenty of information around the nature preserve, and a wide variety of native plants are cultivated and sold here.
