I love this little garden and come here every few days. My main interest is in the rose garden in the front. Fortunately, there are several types of roses, and they have a long blooming period of several weeks. Even when they stop blooming, it does not seem long before another blooming cycle begins.
Beyond the rose garden is a large yard divided into natural sections. One area is a fenced in area with a variety of trees (such as Japanese Maple) and other shrubs set around little walking paths, and stone creek beds and a waterfall (no water) and seating areas. Another is simply an open lawn area to enjoy. And other little pockets of gardens are scattered around the property.
The park is mostly accessible, depending on what mobility issues one might have. It's worth giving it a try, because I'm sure regardless of the kind of mobility issue you have, you will still be able to access certain areas easily.
Plenty of parking is available and handicapped parking is there too. I'm pretty sure there are not any open public restrooms available because the ones they have always seem to be locked whenever I'm there.
This is a peaceful place and used to have very few visitors, but I've noticed there seem to be more visitors in recent months. Is it because this review has attracted so much attention, or because COVID seems to be relatively long in the past and people are just done feeling cooped up, or something else? Regardless of more people coming, there always seems to be a little corner to sit down and be...
Read moreI'm a little bit torn about this review because I didn't give it three stars. I'm giving the location four stars because the experience was below my expectations, but my expectations may have been too high. When I first read the reviews for this arboretum I thought to myself it's probably going to be on the scale of some of the other ones that previously visited.
To my surprise, the garden was much smaller than I anticipated. That's partially my fault, but if you're making a trip specifically to see this location, you may also be a little bit disappointed based on how much time you spent traveling.
The fact that the garden is small doesn't take away from its beauty, it just means that the experience without the Shinn house tour is very limited. It's for this reason that I didn't give it three stars because I thought that might be too harsh based on expectations that were only in my own head.
With all of that said, I will say that it is worth the trip of seeing. It'll be up to individual visitors to determine how much time and effort they want to spend getting there. Considering how quickly the experience can pass you by. It would fail me in noting once again, just how beautiful the garden is, I just wish there...
Read moreShin Historical park is restored to its original 1860s time. So amazing to see the ancient trees thriving here. Once you enter this tiny park, you feel that you have gone some place far far away from the town. But it is in the middle of residential suburb of Fremont, CA.
You can spend hours exploring and enjoying the cool breeze in the arboretum. Each section of the park is so unique and a best place for pictures.
Saw many photographers bringing their clients or families celebrating their milestones, teens coming and taking graduation or other occasions pictures in this location.
I saw a resident from close by place going circles walking and enjoying his afternoon walk.
This is a gem that I discovered so recently. I’ve lived in the Bay Area for so long, but had not gone in and explored.
Worthwhile place to enjoy. Thanks to Shinn family for creating such a wonderful place.
The main building is available for occasions. It can be booked. Open couple of times a month for exploring the inside of...
