Absolutely abhorrent with communication. I would give them one star but I have to give some credit that they did their job and fixed my laptop. I'm an extremely patient person, but the terrible communication and lack of professionalism needs to be addressed.
On the evening of Friday, February 25th 2022, I was referred by Best Buy to take my laptop here to repair the broken hinge. It was appraised, they tagged my cord and laptop, I paid the upfront fee of $40, and I was told I would be contacted on Sunday.
I was not contacted Sunday. Instead, I personally called the shop on Tuesday March 1st at 5pm to get an update. I was told they were still looking for a laptop screen that was not in the UK to order, otherwise I would have to order that one and wait 3-4 weeks for the part to even be imported. I was told I would be contacted by Thursday March 3rd.
I was not contacted by Thursday March 3rd. I was not contacted at all, in fact. I even gave them a much greater grace period this time around: a whole week. I finally contacted them on Thursday March 10th for an update. I was then told that they did in fact find a part in the US that could get here quickly and was "more expensive than the UK one". The tone in which this was relayed to me was implying that they had this knowledge for while, but never contacted me to move forward, since they needed my approval to do so.
I had asked then how much each part was, because I was never given a quote even for the UK part. I gave them the go-ahead to spend the $30-something more it would be to just order the US part. They said my laptop would be done between Wednesday March 16th and Friday March 18th.
Once again, I had to call them on Friday March 18th for an update. I was told they were putting the final touches on it and would be contacted soon when it was ready to go. They finally called me in the afternoon and said it was ready for pickup.
I then asked what my total was. I was put on a very long hold, only for the guy to come back on and tell me that he couldn't tell me because it wasn't in the system, and that he would have to contact management. What sort of system is a tech company running to where they can't tell me a total? I work in tech also and this just floored me.
Being that my laptop was ready and I was still at work, and would not have the time to pick it up that day, nor the weekend as I had an event to attend, and didn't want my laptop staying there any longer, my mother volunteered to go pick it up for me. I was waiting for someone to call me for my approval for her to pick it up, but didn't get one, she was able to pick it up just knowing my name. Of course, she had to pay for it, but still one would expect to have to give their approval for their device to be picked up by someone else.
Regardless, there was another small incident with them at first saying they were missing my cord, to which I confirmed they tagged my cord along with the laptop. They had told my mother they would have to look for it, contact management, and then have the whole laptop ready for pickup the next day. My mother demanded they find whatever missing piece at that moment so she could take the laptop home since it was done.
Turned out it was complete miscommunication. They had thought my laptop came with a stylus and thought they were missing that (so much for tagging things...), when I confirmed that, no, I did not check in any pen stylus, it was just the laptop and the cord (that was not missing), my mother was able to bring my laptop home to me.
The hinge is fixed and the screen is working fine as of now. The work was done, though it definitely could have been done way sooner had they contacted me at all for approval of parts purchased instead of me waiting to hear from them for a week with radio silence.
I cannot recommend this place in good faith for laptop repair. Perhaps cell phone repair is a different story, but to not be contacted at all during the process is simply poor...
Read moreI came here to get my Samsung S8 screen fixed it had a crack in both corners. While fixing the screen of my phone they completely messed up the motherboard. They tried to fix the problem they made and they made it worse I ended up having to get a new phone and sell my phone to u tec and they only gave me 50 dollars because the phone was messed up (by them). I then had to get a Samsung A42 because I could not afford a new phone at the time becaues I recently just got the new phone they broke. I have now had to live with the consequences of there actions and am wait to save up to finally buy a new phone . I will never be going here again and if you would like to save money and not have your phone get completely messed up and jipped from your money and end up having to get a new phone then I would not go here if I were you thank you u tec for taking all of my money and completely messing up my brand new phone.
Update u tec saw my review and wanted to make things right so they ended up giving me a Samsung s 22 FE for free and they gave my a brand new charging cord and a charger block for the new phone. The customer service was a lot better and they really tried to make things right.
