I'm not sure why many people are saying this is an easy hike, but I would rate it as more moderate. There are some steep parts, especially near the top, and the trail is not well-marked so it could be a bit confusing to find the right way up. We were lucky to have seen other hikers going down so that pointed us to the right direction. There's more than one way going out and we exited unintentionally to a different exit when we went down. Younger kids can surely do this but elderly adults might find the final part too steep. There is an all-rocky trail right before the very top, which is part of the "rock". Views on the top are gorgeous. Would have given this 5 stars if only the trail was better marked.
There seems to be 2 parking spots on the Jockey Cap store that's specifically for the trail hikers but if they're occupied, you can park at the Dollar...
Read moreYes it is a rock and the view is great from the top. However the reason to go there is the pedestal. This pedestal has a 360 degree metal ring around it. When you look across the ring you can see the mountains behind and the name of the mountains on the plaque. Very interest to see and not too hard to hike. It is very steep but short. The trail head is in the parking lot of Quinn's Jockey Cap Store. There are only two parking spots to park your car. They will not let you park at any other parking spot. They told us to park next door at Dollar General. The folks there were very good. We parked there and hiked the trail.
Later we found a dirt trail alongside the school. You can drive up that road and park. The trail is...
Read moreWe parked at the edge of a shopping plaza and entered the trail. The path had a few steep spots going up. On the way down, the flat rocks at the top were a little tricky for those in our group with bad knees. There's no easy foothold to prevent slipping. Alas, no one in our group of kids, parents, grandparents got hurt (slow and steady). This is a short hike, overall. At the top, the view is nice (assuming you don't climb on a cloudy day). You can see a lot of ME's mountain ranges. There's this pedestal thing that maps...
