Went to the sandcastle building. Crowded. Parking lot people were not very good at doing their job but great at talking to one another. Sandcastles were amazing. A big thanks to the EMTs who had their hands full with heat related sickness. Thank you for the care you gave our son. Thanks to the police officers who got our son to the EMTs! Thank you to the lifeguards who got us back to our RV after our son recovered.

R.A. Apffel East beach is a great place for families, couples and even just a one person trip. Near the beach there is a ice house that has clean restrooms, plus they also have those plastic restrooms. One important thing is know that you don't need to buy to use the restrooms at the ice house, but if you are not a drinker then buy at less a lemonade 😀👍. They have fun games down this area, horse ride if I am not mistaken is from $50 to $60 per person per ride, there is a jet ski rental as well, they have life guards, it doesn't mean you will unattended yours😀. You can take your canopy, beach umbrella or something like that, but if don't like to carry any of those well there is a umbrella rental as well. There are ice cream trucks and ice shave trucks as well., you do pay a $15 fee per auto to go in there , but if you don't want to pay you can park right before the entrance, just just to walk more to go closer to the sea/beach, or you can park much before if you like to fly a kie , there plenty of open space. TAKE YOU FOOD OR BBQ PIT to enjoy your meal. There is no places where they sale food. We enjoy the sunset and our time there. 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀. Please take your trash to trash cans. 😉 This is a very clean beach. Be aware there is a closing time and believe...

Wife and I came here first thing a few years ago. It was about 10 years since we had been to the beach due to school/work. After driving for 10 hours we walked to the beach and sat in some beach chairs that are apparently made of gold. We sat down in them for all of about 3 minutes before some douche came running over and demanded we pay the $30/day to rent them. We explained we were only going to be there a few more minutes and he promptly said "NO, you need to get up now unless you are paying". I guess he had a premonition of a hundred families that were going to drop out of the sky and rent the other 30 umbrellas and chairs that were sitting empty. Now that my wife and I live on the island we tell ANYONE that we can to just stop by Academy and buy your own set of umbrella and chairs for $20 that you can actually keep. Even during the summers when we have guests down we don't...

We have lived in the Houston area for 8 years now and, although we've tried to make it to AIA Sandcastle Competition a few times, it just never worked out. Today we made it out to East Beach and it was well worth our wait getting to enjoy this event at long last. My son will be 16 tomorrow and it's a junior in high school who's very interested in pursuing a career in the architecture field someday and is currently starting his third year of architecture classes in high school. He thoroughly enjoyed it as well and is now interested in becoming a participant in next year's competition. The beach wasn't that busy today as it was the last day to view the sandcastles. Something I'm sad we've missed out on for so long, but I'm certainly excited to attend in the future years!

Hidden gem in Galveston. Not many know about this beach and I hope it stays that way =) The beach is quiet and secluded. Nice facility with bathroom and picnic tables for family. It seems especially sunny and breezy here because this beach is at the meeting point of two currents, so you get all the good stuff without the crowd. If you happen to stumble upon this gem (by reading my review for instance), keep it a secret haha, so you can enjoy it for years to come. It was so nice to sunbathe and walk along this beach. No noisy kids running around to disturb us. No crowded families trashing everywhere. We will definitely come back. I saved this as favorite on my Map.
