What can I say? It’s a giant pie pan.
But I’m a sucker for these kind of things, so I had to take a look.
The pan is indeed massive. While bushes have grown around the pan, visitors have worn a small path between them so they can get to the pan for a photo op. I have seen photos of people who have climbed into the pan. A couple notes of warning, though. First, if you’re wearing shorts, I saw a number of thistles that could scratch up your legs. Second, while I wouldn’t advise climbing on the pan, you could get wet or dirty if you do, especially after a recent rain. The water sits at the bottom of this enormous pie plate.
A sign stands proudly nearby declaring this is the site of a Guinness World Record. Unfortunately, it is hard to read and needs a bit of maintenance. If you’re hoping to read it from your car, you may be disappointed. My phone’s camera couldn’t even zoom in enough for me to read it while I sat in my car along the road. (Continue reading about parking.)
To say parking is limited is an understatement. I didn’t see any kind of parking area, so you’ll need to pull off the side of the road. There is a spot where the grass is worn down. We didn’t have much traffic during our quick stop, but be careful if the roads are busy.
If you like small road side attractions and you’re nearby, swing past to see this record setter. Just be careful if you want to hop out...
Read moreWow we traveled 1,269 miles and got a hotel room for a week just to see and admire the WORLDS LARGEST CHERRY PIE PAN. We were not let down! It was amazing! Spent hours just gazing and dreaming about what we could do with such a huge Guinness book of world record sized pan and cherry pie .... Let me tell you... It was not all pure thoughts!
There is no actual parking lot, but there is room to pull off the side of the road where everyone else has.
The sign is sun faded and worn out. This world renowned tourist destination needs some TLC on their sign.
There is no hotel, casino, or restaurants on site. Such a shame. I'm pretty sure you can't camp there. I mean there was not any signs that said you can't. But I would recommend against it.
I also did not see any bathrooms there besides...
Read moreWho doesn’t love to sit in the world’s biggest cherry pie tin? No parking so you have to park across the street, and shimmy into some bushes to hop in the dirty tin, but totally worth it.
The tin made me feel as home. I was loved and welcomed. The thoughts of a 28,000 lb cherry pie just reminded me of when my great great great grandmother would refuse to pass down her cherry pie recipe. She was a lunatic and had a brain made of mush, but I bet she was a fun lady. This tin isn’t just home, but is also fun. Don’t slip like we did or your butt will be covered in “cherry juice” (birds nests and mud). Love that Snapchat had the title just like Google maps....
