I moved to Delaware 5 years ago.. and have been driving past the "Treasure of the Seas" sign for.. 4.5 years now. My regret is waiting so long to visit!
I went with our dear friend, my 7 year old, and myself. I had NO idea what we were in for! I didn't research before going, which is so not like me! We arrived and saw the wooden sign that said "Lost Treasures of the Atocha".
We walked in and were instantly greeted by Angie Barker (which I found out is the curator). You start the tour with a 17 minute video (it kept my 7 year old attention for the most part!).. then you delve into a guided tour.
There was so much information and so many fascinating things to see. Mrs. Barker took the time to explain things in ways that my 7 year old understood and kept his attention. Mrs. Barker also allowed him time to ask his questions.. even if they were silly! They also integrate a Minecraft portion to draw in the kids! The exhibit had quite a few interactive experiences.. you can touch a silver bar, coins you can feel, 4 cannons you can touch, even a cannon ball they recovered. There are quite a few things you can not touch but are very interesting to see. The amount of history and information that has been gathered is amazing. Angie Barker kept my sons attention through 98 percent of the tour (listen thats tough!). He came home talking about the things he saw in the vault, the salt coming through the silver bars, and the items from a local Delaware shipwreck. We are almost a week later and he is still raving about it. I'd give more in depth details but.. this is something I think seeing in person is so much better than hearing from someone second hand!
Thank you Mrs. Barker for the amazing tour and the work you did to...

Many of these artifacts, including silver coins, bronze cannons, emeralds, and religious items, are on display at the Treasure of the Sea Exhibit. Visitors can also learn more about the history of the ship and the treasure hunt, and there’s a gift...
